Briere is still off side. I assume you had no problem with that. - Oneonta Penguin
After the blatant missed icing call that is just as relevant, no, I had no problem with that. And for any of you pissed at the non-call on Downie, I'm wondering how Bortuzzo gives him a 2-hander, punches him, then swats his stick out of his hands and Downie ends up with 2.
Bottom line, there were horrible missed calls on both sides. If that game went 1 period longer, Pittsburgh probably ties it up. |

Of course, Filly has never benefitted from a no call offside. - Oneonta Penguin
there might be no bigger blown offsides call than AGAINST the Flyers in the 1980 SCF vs the Islanders. It probably cost them the cup.

And that call is just as relevant to today's game as Briere's from 2 years ago is. |

today was just a perfect example of how this team would lose in a playoff series.
uninspired start, poor discipline and you find yourself down by a goal or two. failure to covert on the powerplay with an occasional shorthanded goal against and you fail to tie it. after the start, 5 on 5 is pretty even with doesn't allow you to get the tying goal.
we have seen it before. lets hope we don't see it again.
and its been beaten like a dead horse but how does Despres not make the lineup when you have 2 puck moving defensemen out. I truly just don't get it. |

Watching that offside play towards the end... it just shows you how Crosby's mind works.
It ended up still being offside, but he gave Malkin an extra half second to get onside by letting the puck drift across the line instead of carrying. If it's on his stick, it's offside as soon as the puck crosses the line. With him letting it drift into the zone, he gave Malkin extra time to touch up before he touched the puck (or crossing the line himself).
Hossa made a similar play in the Olympics and everyone was complaining at the time that it was offside, but Hossa never touched it until his player cleared the zone. Smart players... |

One team realized the game started at 12:30 the other thought it started at 1:00. |

great play by Crosby ... Malkin definitely had time to touch up, but almost seemed to lose track of where he was on the ice. It's like he thought he WAS onside. Strange play, for sure.
The Pens had much better of the play over the final 40 minutes. The Flyers were a bit lucky today to catch you guys with a ton of injuries. |

I hope the Flyers keep winning... As of yesterday they were in the 1st wild card spot and would meet the Pens in the first round. Now the Flyers are 2nd in the division. Stay there... at least the Pens can hope that someone else knocks them out.

If it's Flyers-Rangers, Pens would probably play the Rags in round 2. |

@MolinariPG: Bylsma says Letang and Bennett are cleared for full practices.
WHATTTTT!?
I expected Bennett but Letang too!? Interesting. Byslma said he still has a few things to go through but didn't elaborate. |

That's my hope.... I'd take the Rags every day over the Flyers. The Pens could still have their hands full with someone like Detroit or Montreal in the first round. |

Craziness...
Still have to think that Letang will have several stages of medical clearances to go through before he's cleared to play. You'd hope at least... |

to me, best case is Columbus. Nationwide Arena would become Consol Energy Center. |

Yeah it's a different situation than usual. However this is full contact practice he's cleared for. I'm saying he still returns to game action around same time Martin does or a bit after. Either way the option to have him back is important.
But...
@MolinariPG: Bylsma says there is no target date for Letang to resume playing. |

I just don't have any faith that the Penguins can be disciplined against the Flyers in another playoff series. We saw it today. The Flyers can get under the skin of the Penguins like no other team. The dumb retaliatory penalties must stop. They are a team I don't want to see in the playoffs for specifically that reason. |

I mean the fact we are even talking about this right now is crazy.
Getting him back is huge.
the only bad thing is now we have to listen to all of the internet "doctors" tell us that Letang is using poor judgement. If Letang's doctors say he is ready, I believe them. simple as that. |

Some good news on a disappointing day.
Plenty of time before the playoffs to them to ease into the lineup and get conditioned. |

I'm no doctor, but if I were Letang, I'd prefer to stay out, especially when you saw what happened when Peverely chose playing over a procedure. I know it's different circumstances, but I'd prefer to take the rest of the season and summer to rest. But he knows the risk, and can make his own decisions as long as he's cleared. |
