just as bortuzo deserved 2 for slashing the stick from downie's hands or for holding him. but that is the nhl's version of even up: let the pens get away with 5 and let the flyers get away with 1

I thought it was a not all that unusual, poorly officiated game, that really didn't favor any one side. I personally just accept it and move on. I thought a no call was the right call there, until Downie used his head as a ram.

Is not having faith in players also sad? Lecavalier had a goal and an assist over the weekend and was a +1.
- MJL

Yeah I was wrong about lecavalier though lol. He actually looked good in the offensive zone. Hopefully this is a long term thing and I'll gladly be wrong.

-100 goal differential
Last in scoring in the OHL by a wide margin
Team Name: The Steelheads!

I'm well aware, still play them tough. Oshawa can get a couple goal lead it will be tough for Mississauga to handle.

The scouting staff has done a poor job of evaluating defensive talent, it hasn't been from a lack of drafting d-men. The last two drafts have been promising, but with the financial resources available for this franchise, they needed to do a better job then just the last two drafts. For whatever reason, the scouting staff does a much better job of evaluating forwards.
- ravishingone

To be honest, the Flyers have a stronger group of non-NHL defenseman than forwards right now. Laughton is their only legit prospect. Guys like Leier, Cousins and Straka are question marks with an upside of 3rd line.

Downie deserved to be penalized there. That was pathetic what he did. He's gotta keep his stuff together better than that.
- FlyersSteve118

i don't disagree, but they were knocking the poop out of him all game and not getting called. can't have it both ways

I thought it was encouraging. But he still needs to be even better then he was this weekend. At least he contributed to the cause.

I don't see them having too much of an issue. Wouldn't be the worst thing to have a team play them tough in the first round.

In the past he was so bad he was making schenn and Simmonds useless. As long as he is decent and doesn't drag them down he can stick on that line. Hopefully he pays this good though and we won't have to worry anymore.

As of now I agree, but much of the last 20 years it has been pretty lean on homegrown d-men who actually made it to the NHL. Their evaluation process has gotten better in the last two years.

Plenty of ufa defensemen with limitations for the flyers to sign this off season!

Definitely. They've been very fortunate over the years. They've never had a large group of prospects, but their top guys usually turn out to be real good players. You compare that with a team like the Islanders who have had a ton of top prospects turn out to be nothing more than role players.

i think it clearly favored pitts after the 1st, but who cares? they won both games and gave themselves a good shot at gaining ground over the next week or two
