I'm still wondering how Bortuzzo gives him a 2-hander, punches him, then swats his stick out of his hands and Downie ends up with 2.

Also, anyone have any idea about the extra curriculars at the end?

- jmatchett383

They'll allow a certain amount of stuff to go on. But Downie used his head as a weapon not once, but twice into the chest of the Pen. He deserved to get the 2 minutes.

I knew they weren't going to get another one. Stick holds, interference, whatever, they weren't gonna get another call

I didn't even bother complaining about it -- Downie gets slashed, has his stick broken, gets called for a penalty two minutes later

But they can't take THE TWO POINTS female dogES

- AllInForFlyers

i will say this, that the league doesnt even try to hide the fact that they allow the score to influence the calls. this infuriates me. for any team.

wasn't posting yesterday because had people over for the game, and decided against it today since yesterday went so well

but huge weekend getting all 4 pts, esp with the gauntlet coming up. pretty solid game today. still wish the weak side winger didn't collapse so much into the slot giving up that shot from the point, esp when there is no opposing team player in the slot. and gotta bury chances and stop passing up shots for passes.

great forecheck and cycle, solid puck support, break out passes were crisp and quick for the most part, special teams on both pp and pk were just outstanding, and mase was big when we needed him.

oh and (frank) you Pittsburgh

Not sure, but the Pens didn't really have the A squad for fighters on the ice. Coburn was lifting those tadpoles right off the pile one at a time.

I wish I played in a league where you could take a baseball swing at a guy and have it be let allowed.

I'm sorry, but Downie's been taking ridiculous shots to the head all season. I'm glad he defended himself

Not saying it didn't happen, but I didn't see a baseball swing from a Pen player.

Hartsy laid a nice hit on Bortuzzo to even things up in the third. Strong weekend from #19.

Well, 2/2 so far.

Keep it rolling and beat CHI

Go Flyers, and I'm off to study for a class that lies to us all and calls itself math but isn't really (frank)ing math. I want math. I hate this class.

They allow so many things to influence calls. Score, reputation, make-up calls, evening up calls. Its so annoying.

I'll give credit for Chief showing patience, but Downie is just not playing smart hockey at crucial points in the game. He isn't taking good penalties. Somehow, they have to reel him in or sit him.

The ref most likely drew the line at some point and stated to stop with any further nonsense to be penalized. Downie continued.

As far as the reffing goes, it seemed they decided to even up the PP's and then put away the whistles.

I was hoping they'd get a real good 4th line player. That way they could move Raffl up to the 3rd line. If they move Raffl, that 4th line becomes atrocious again. He keeps them afloat. Even with Downie, the 3rd line is still very strong.

I thought Downie did some good things today. Worked the boards well. He just needs to recognize the officials are going to call him for anything. He can't get too involved after the whistle.

like when someone goes up 3 or 4 goals, you need to lose a limb to get a call. its just so predictable.

looked like simmonds and malkin were jousting at the buzzer, they start tangling, crysby gets his tough guy look that he gets when he sees the opponent is outnumbered and a fight probably won't be allowed by the refs and jumped on in like the tough guy he is.

That's why I don't feel sorry for the guy Downie clipped -- TBH, they owed him at least two

The Flyers PK came up huge again today. They have such a strong core that excels at killing penalties. Couturier is probably the best in the league at it. Love the 4 point weekend and it's a great start to this big stretch coming up.
