Old Fraude? He sucks. He had a bad 15 games and you know he's not worthy of the C or the contract they gave him
- Jsaquella

The contract was clearly a mistake, egg on face! Hahahaha

Yeah, he just has 15 more points than anybody else in the NHL
- Jsaquella

Didn't you know? The only games that matter are the ones he loses. Stats during wins are insignificant.

Holy cow just watched the highlights from last nights Sens/Habs. Talk about home-ice officiating, AKA 'typical Montreal'.

That game was crazy.

If the Pens would play their backup, it would be a sure fire win.

Does he have defensive issues? He has 15 more points than any other player in the league, on a great goal differential team, and he still barely cracks the top 120 in +/-

So, because he's rather pedestrian in terms of a highly flawed stat, the fact that he's running away with the scoring race doesn't matter?

Oh and BTW, in terms of 5 on 5 goals, the Pens as a team are a +8.

10 goals and 22 assists on the pp that i dont believe count toward +/-.

Why?

The trainers in the film already came out and said they were misrepresented.

Soooo when did I say the scoring race doesn't matter? I've heard he has defensive issues, and despite being a flawed stat, his +/- seems to support that. Ovechkin's defensive deficiencies clearly show in his stats, as he leads the league in goals, and is a top 5 scorer, but has the fourth worst +/- in the league. Crosby isn't close to that bad, but when you score so much on such a good goal differential team, and when the players you play with most (Kunitz, Maata) are tops in the league in +/-, you'd think his +/- would be better.

Edit: and ya, maybe his numbers leaning so heavily on the PP have a strong effect on it.

Yep. +/- ignores power play production. Let's say Claude Giroux scores 2 PPGs and 3 PPAs in one game, but is on the ice for 1 even strength goal against.

He's a -1 on the day.

Crosby is +7. The Penguins goal differential, overall, is +43. But their 5 on 5 goal differential is only +8. Add in 4 on 4 and it climbs only slightly to +12.

So a guy who is +7 on a team that is a +12 is hardly a subpar defensive player.

The next thing to take into account is that short handed goals count towards a player's +/-. The Pens have given up 5 SHG and scored just 1. So that brings their overall +12 as a team down to +8, which is 1 higher than Crosby's personal +7.

Because +/- doesn't really indicate defensive play for individuals at all.

The Penguins are the top powerplay team in the NHL. Those goals don't count towards Crosby's +/- totals, and are a significant part of the goal differential.

At even strength, the Penguins goal differential is only +12. When you factor in short handed goals for and against, they are only +8.

As for the difference between Crosby and Kunitz & Maatta in +/-, Crosby plays more minutes on the PP than both, which affects his +/- negatively. It's not as simple as just looking at +/- totals.
