Well that is my point. Either they think the Morin will be a better player then Nichushkin, which everyone should be fired if thats the case... OR they knew they had an orgizational need at defense thus ranked Morin ahead of Nichushkin for that reason.

And if they were willing to bypass taking Nichuskin becuase they needed a defenseman, then how can people justify bypassing Maata for Laughton when there was a orginizational need....

- SchennBros

Why should they be fired? How do you know that they were wrong? When Morin has not played a single second of NHL Hockey? This is mind boggling.

Flyers draft BPA. The scenario you have here doesn't exist.

Here's the final Central scouting list from 2008. Look through it and see if they got anything wrong.

So wait, are you saying the professionals can be wrong? Cause I could have sworn you were just saying how the Flyers are professionals....

Nichushkin was way down on their board. They had several forwards/defenseman ahead of him. Having Morin ahead of him wasn't a defenseman issue. They just didn't like him as much as the others.

Its the media influence. Great example is a kid like Kadri. Does he have upside? Sure, but if he is playing in say Nashville or Minnesota he wouldn't be the next saviour of maple syrup.

Jets are essentially the same crew they were in Atlanta, vibes are that changes will come. The pressure is starting to heat up.

They need a legit center and I think they'd be better off parting with either Byfuglien or Enstrom for a more well rounded defenseman.

I've never stated that they were perfect or never wrong. I've only made two points. That they are infinitely more qualified then any fan. And that whether they made the right choice there, is unknown, so any criticism of it at this point, doesn't have a lot of merit behind it.

Just on a little side-note, while scouting is important, developing that player properly is also crucial.

With how they treated Sbisa in his time here, and Guss now. You would like to see that improve.

Speaking of side notes. Jets are riding a 5 game losing streak and the Maurice magic has worn off. Another team that could be looked at to plunder in the off-season.

Then they should all be fired. Really. I like Morin, but if Nichushkin dropped to the Flyers and they didn't select him they should have been immediately shown the door.

You could, also, argue they've been very good in the first round. I think they deserve the benefit of the doubt in that regard. Laughton is 19 and Morin is 18. I think they need some time before we start criticizing those picks.

I'm sure there were a lot of Blues fans poopting themselves because they saw Schenn have a decent rookie season after stepping in right away... and the next season they got to watch Tyler Myers look like superman in his first go at it.... bet they aren't complaining about Petro now.

And god was Kyle Beach a bust of epic proportions.

Irrational thinking. Should every GM who missed Giroux be fired? There were some pretty poopty players picked before him.

If Nicushkin becomes a top scoring Winger in the league. And Morin becomes a top defenseman in the League. Who is the better player?

I mean look through the entire list. Bogosian is certainly not a bust. But is he better then Pietrangelo or Doughty?

I think you have an extremely elevated opinion of Nichushkin that much of the rest of the world does not share.

It's like crying over missing out on Blake Wheeler.

I believe there is merit to questions to Flyers logic of having Morin and several players listed higher then a player that was generally ranked by most scouts as the 2nd best international player, and somewhere in the top 5 of all players.

And again if people say they didnt like him because of the russian thing... then they would have bypassed the best player available.

Giroux wasn't ranked very high. Its not like the Flyers took giroux 8th overall and made a leap to get him when he wasnt ranked high...

BPA isn't completely based on skill. It's several measurables. A guy like Josh Ho Sang has tremendous skill, but is a selfish player who doesn't realize there is a defensive zone too.

If you want to say they made a mistake having Nichushkin too low then go ahead. I don't think they should be fired for ranking a risky player too low.
