McDavid will end up in Buffalo, NYI, Florida , Edmonton or Nashville..

I think you mean: McDavid will end up in Buffalo, Buffalo, Florida , Edmonton or Nashville..

The Isles won't have that pick.

Embarassing for Karlsson, that's for sure.
- prock

TRY and convince me you wouldn't want Karlsson on your team..

I don't get how people bash Karlsson......If he had a reliable partner, the odd giveaway is a complete non-factor.

As I said, that's the 6th highest cap hit of all centres. As you acknowledge, he's nowhere near top 6 in the league.

How can that be going rate?

still a better contract than phaneuf

Not really. Phaneuf offers more to a team than Spezza does.

The Sens lost their heart and soul at the start of this season. Explain how things have "went right" for them this year??

Your hate for the Sens is hilarious, and it clouds your objective judgement.

Spezz is a point per game player over a LONG sample size. There's only a select few that can say that.

I'm not saying he's in the top 5, or even the top 10 in the league- but saying he's tremendously overpaid at 7mil (4mil actual $) is hilarious.

That's going rate for a #1 Centre.. But then again, what do you know about a #1 C, you haven't had one since Sundin left.

- Jordo

And when I say things went right, I mean with the roster they have. Spezza stayed healthy, which is pretty incredible. Turris and Macarthur played way above their heads for a good portion of the season. 7 points combined in their last 10 games. Much closer to what they've done the rest of their careers.

Spezza gets hurt (long overdue), Turris and Macarthur continue at their current pace, which is more likely than they actually score, and you've got a basement team.

Yeah, I'd say it took a lot to go right for the Sens to land where they did.

Why the hell would anyone trade a top pairing dman for a second rate oft-injured declining guy like Spezza?

Spezza and a first maybe? But do you do that if you're the Sens? Their next first round pick could land Connor McDavid.

- prock

I do agree i would make that trade but your characterization of Spezza isn't exactly accurate either. Not counting the lockout season(which did have his only recent substantial injury) he's averaged 72 games played a season for the past decade, how is that injury prone?

He's still only 30 and if you put him with decent line mates i bet you he gets back to 30 or so goals, 70+ pts a season.

it was projected at 71.3m back in Decemeber, but then recently they said that they think the cap will probably project around 1-2m from that. Still nothing is offical, all just projected figures

Where exactly have they landed? You're acting like Ottawa is in the hunt. They're a significant long shot to sniff the playoffs.

I think you significantly underrate Turris. Bobby Ryan has been more or less invisible since the Olympic snub, Cowen has been a complete disaster, Anderson was abysmal to start the year.

AND they lost their legend, heart and soul of the team due to some GM/Owner disputes for nothing.

Yeah- I'd say a ton of things have been going right for Ottawa this year...

Karlsson is a stud, period. I say amongst best in the league, no doubt.

I understand alot of people despise Dion, including leaf fans. But let me tell you, we'd be nowhere without him. His game has really improved (he sacrificed alot of offense for defense). If I had my way he'd be off the top pp unit to give him a few minutes off per game - he's too overworked.

Turris sucks. His career year before this one is 29 points.

Bobby Ryan is actually pretty close to his average, and that's with a significant downgrade in linemates.

Cowen is a complete disaster.

Alfredsson - irrelevant. As I said, given the roster they have, they've done fairly well considering.

And yes, where they landed is a ways from a playoff spot. Things went well for them to be out of the basement. A significant injury to any one of Karlsson, Spezza, and Ryan, and you're looking at a bottom 3 team.

but a 5billion dollar Canadian TV rights deal sure dosent hurt right now, not sure when that comes into play. Revenue for next season I assume when the deal kicks in or does the NHL already have the cash?

yeah, he's great. I've actually thought the Sens should play to his strengths, and line up 3 d when he's on the ice. Two shutdown guys and Karlsson, and just let Karlsson play his game. I know it's different than conventional thinking, but if they were to let him play his game, and cover up for his deficiencies better, it could be really good for the Sens.
