A team in need of a class act play maker for their top noth sniper can do wonders. Think of all those really good team that are missing just that piece to be a notch better than all other teams.

But how many teams could handle his albatross contract?

spezza will get at least as much as kesler. both same age, similar injury history. kesler better defensively, spezza better offensively.

kesler has 2 years lect on his deal, so not exactly a long term acquisition either

- sensarmy_11

Does Spezza have a NTC? If not it could be argued the return could be greater simply in the fact the potential for teams to bid would be greater

Why the hell would anyone trade a top pairing dman for a second rate oft-injured declining guy like Spezza?

Spezza and a first maybe? But do you do that if you're the Sens? Their next first round pick could land Connor McDavid.

- prock

McDavid will end up in Buffalo, NYI, Florida , Edmonton or Nashville..

Meh, many things went right for the Senators this year, and they're still well out of the playoffs. Karlsson, Spezza, or Ryan get injured, and the Sens are fit in quite well with that group.

6th highest cap hit of any centre in the league. He's way overpaid.

Cap wise it's $7M..acceptable! Salary wise...supercheap:

20142015 : $4M

Point per game guy with leadership and a good team mate?

With 1 season left on his deal I hardly think his contract will be the main hurdle for the acquiring team. If comparing Kesler/Spezza returns, if a team can trade for 1 they are most likely able to acquire the other.

Did you know there isn't a single defenseman in the entire NHL that has more goals scored against him while even strength than Erik Karlsson? Worse than Byfuglien, worse than Andrew McDonald. The absolute worst in the entire NHL.

Actually, I didn't know that... Still don't want Buff back on our blueline though

Would you pay $7M for the beating he gave you this week? YES you would. Now think that he is half price!

OK discussion over

So you think a basement team is going to trade for a rental? Because it's only basement teams like Florida, Columbus, and Ottawa that can't spend to the cap that care more about actual salary.

The Sens lost their heart and soul at the start of this season. Explain how things have "went right" for them this year??

Your hate for the Sens is hilarious, and it clouds your objective judgement.

Spezz is a point per game player over a LONG sample size. There's only a select few that can say that.

I'm not saying he's in the top 5, or even the top 10 in the league- but saying he's tremendously overpaid at 7mil (4mil actual $) is hilarious.

That's going rate for a #1 Centre.. But then again, what do you know about a #1 C, you haven't had one since Sundin left.

Okay, well I can see two ppg centres in PIT, one in Tampa, one in Philly, Anaheim, New York, Dallas.

I don't think any of those will be moved though.

And there is really only a couple of those that fit the rest of your description.

As I said, that's the 6th highest cap hit of all centres. As you acknowledge, he's nowhere near top 6 in the league.

How can that be going rate?
