So the Flyers trade for MacDonald, and slap him on their third pairing. They give Meszaros away and he's playing on the Bruins top pairing.

Something doesn't equate.

Let me guess, the answer is Meszaros is playing on the Bruins top pair because he's from the same Country as Chara.... Got it.

Or the Bruins aren't sure what they have in Mez so they want to play him with one of the best dmen in the world over the past 5 years for a few shifts.

Well the Bruins are in a fight for overall top seed in the East, and they are making Dougie Hamilton a healthy scratch.

Mez QB'ing the Bruins power play. I like Mez, just was frustrating he couldn't stay healthy. I thought he played pretty well for the Flyers this year. I understand trading him because they weren't interested in re-signing him, and I don't disagree with that. It's risky because of his injury history.

I will tell you one thing, if Meszaros can stay healthy (big if) he's at least as good as MacDonald.

I'd say Mez is as good as Macd in the offensive zone

He was kind of bad defensively since coming back from injury

Hamilton's been in and out of the B's lineup since he got there. Could be a case of rushing the kid. I think with Meszaros, it's more about having the veteran on the blueline than playing the kid suffering growing pains.

That's fair. He has struggled in his own end from the injuries. I wouldn't be shocked if he turns things around going forward. Between his back, achillies, and shoulder it takes a good year + to recover from those type of injuries.

Do you think the Flyers made a bad move in trading for MacDonald, and in trading Meszaros?

What is saying he's at least as good as MacDonald based on?

Hamilton has played 47 games this year, (18+ mins a game) but he's been scratched at times. Close friend of mine is a Bruins fanatic, he's told me Hamilton has played very solid this year, and he furious that he's being scratched.

I hope Meszaros plays well for them. I've always liked him. A shame he couldn't stay healthy.

The Bruins are carrying 8 healthy D right now, I believe, so somebody's gotta sit.

Hamilton would've gotten more games in last year (he played 42) if it wasn't for the emergence of Krug. I think he's gonna be a force very soon, but it's a numbers game right now.

Yep. They are playing Miller and Bartkowski. And I believe McQuaid is due back soon. They will certainly have a crowded blueline. Meszaros is no guarantee to play for the Bruins in the playoffs.

He wasn't signed to play defense. And he's no worse defensively then Brayden Schenn is.
- MJL

He was signed to supply offense and he hasn't. If he was scoring like B Schenn, his defense could be overlooked. Since he hasn't, he should be busting his ass to get back every shift.

B. Schenn is averaging .55 points per game. Lecavalier is averaging .50 points per game. Not much difference. Every player, regardless of how they're scoring should be busting it defensively. I get your point, if you're not scoring, help the team in other ways. My point there is I'm not expecting Lecavalier to turn into a defensive checking Center.

If you take the pace that each player has scored at this Season, and prorate it to an 82 game Season.

Schenn 20G 25A for 45 pts
Lecavalier 22G 19A 41 pts.

So you'd argue that Lecavalier is playing just as well as Schenn? I'll strongly disagree. I'm not expecting him to be a checking center, but he has been (overall) a highly paid underachiever, so I'd expect him t o TRY to be a little better in other areas, especially from a former captain.

No, I wouldn't. That was just towards the comment that maybe if he was scoring as well as Schenn has, his defense could be overlooked. Well he basically is scoring as well as Schenn has. But I don't have any delusions of how Lecavalier has been playing. The expectation of Lecavalier was to score far more then Schenn, and to give the Flyers a quality second line. That hasn't happened for the majority of the Season. I'm aware of how poorly he has been playing just as everyone else is.
Lecavalier can be better in a lot of areas. My focus is not on debating how bad he has been, or how poorly he has been playing. It's pretty obvious how he is struggling. My focus is on what's best for the team, and how do they get Lecavalier playing better, so they can be a stronger team down the road.
