Schenn has been playing at center, and he has 6 points in the last 15 games. The numbers are clear. He has had the same ups and downs and struggles at center as he has at wing.
I don't think there is any doubt that Lecavalier is a better player at Center then at LW. And the disparity between him playing those two spots, is much larger then moving Schenn between Wing and center.
Playing Lecavalier on the 4th line, and getting the scraps of whatever is left on the PP after the first unit is done, is a waste. Might at well scratch him.

I agree wholeheartedly with your last sentence.

And points are not the lone thing that one should use to assess a player. Schenn's had his best season as a pro, playing mostly at center. And Lecavalier hasn't played well at any position on a regular basis since the first ten games or so.

In my opinion Lecavalier was one of the teams better forwards until the back injury. Which was 22 games in.

You mean he was the only guy who didn't start in a wicked slump.

I know. I remember Berube using him on a line with G and Jake for a few shifts a game (This is when Raffl was on the top line) and for those few shifts, the team would either let in a goal or come close to allowing a goal.

He's the anti-raffl right now.

He's playing horribly. If it's due to injuries, shut him down. If it's just because he's no longer a top 6 or top 9 player, then use him as a specialist. He looks terrible, every metric from points to plus/minus to the advanced stats say he's playing poorly, and no matter who he's been playing with, their play has dipped.

It sucks, because I like Vinny. But he's been terrible to watch.

My focus is the same. And my opinion is based on what I feel is best for the team. Not just one player. And yes, the Flyers might not agree, and they have the only vote.
- MJL

And although I'm sure it means squat, I hope as much as anyone that your proved correct, because a productive Vinny is what is best for the Flyers.

And I obviously don't agree with you either.

I don't know how closely you watch the games. But since lecavalier has been put on the line its like the other team is on the power play and schenn and simmonds are forced to try and score short handed. That is an exaggeration of course, but Lecavalier has been that NOTICEABLY bad out there.

Being a minus player isn't always a tell, but -17?! Have you seen his corsi w/ numbers? He brings everyone around him down regardless of position. Have you seen his corsi w/ numbers last year in TB? The same thing was happening and gradually getting worse for years.

But this year is a new low for him, while reducing corsi of his team mates by around 5% he reduces the corsi of team mates this year by 15 to 20%!!!! Get him the hell off the ice!

First 8 games 7 points, -3
Next 14 games (prior to injury) 7 points, -3
Next 30 games (post injury) 12 points, -11

If you remove the first 8 games, he has 19 points in 44 games.

What, you're not a fan of spinorama blind backhand passes on the rush through two defenders?

What if that forces a younger player out of his best position to succeed? Because if he's playing 2nd line center that means Brayden Schenn moves to a position he's less effective playing.

I'm sorely disappointed in Lecavalier's all around play. I give him a bit of leeway for the injuries, but he's been awful.

If it is injuries that are limiting him, they should shut him down.

while it was ridiculous in hindsight, you could see the thought process there. Perhaps a younger Vinny could have pulled that off. A younger Vinny may not have need to as well I guess.

He should have just shot the puck. On any 2v1, he should shoot the puck right now. I have no confidence his pass will reach the target.

By the way, where did all of our players learn this low percentage spin-o-rama? We've seen it from Luke Schenn, Streit and now Vinny. It, almost, never works. In fact, it has hurt the team more than its help the team this year.

Streit used it a lot but most of the time its to shrug off fore checkers or forwards pressing the point in the offensive zone. He did that a lot with the NYI. Never saw him try to do it on a 2v1 though.

My opinion on Lecavalier is not debating whether or not he's been playing well since coming back from the injury. That's been pretty clear. I'm well aware of how he is playing. My opinion is based on why he's playing as poorly as he has, and how to correct it. For the good of the team.

His CF% and his CF%rel were pretty much the same in 11/12 and 12/13.

So the Flyers trade for MacDonald, and slap him on their third pairing. They give Meszaros away and he's playing on the Bruins top pairing.

Something doesn't equate.

Let me guess, the answer is Meszaros is playing on the Bruins top pair because he's from the same Country as Chara.... Got it.

MacDonald is averaging 19:11 in icetime for the Flyers. Call the pair whatever number you want. I think if Macdonald was on Boston, he'd be capable of playing with Chara also. And they didn't give Meszaros away.
