So basically the VLC deal is Bryzgalov 2.0. - Pixote Andolini
I'm not a great fan of the way he's played so far, but he is a classy individual, who is a team guy.....Bryz was not.....this situation is on Vinny to make it work....sometimes the onus is on the player to be better. |

desean traded to kansas city
draft a receiver in the 1st
sign revis - Crimsoninja
You can't just pop in here then leave. Had me all over twitter looking for a link to that trade.
I would rather hold on to Desean for at least one more year. They need pass rush help. I would rather them use their first pick on that. |

He was also seeing more ES and PP time last year, and the quality of his teammates were off-the-charts better than they've been here. Half his goals and 1/3 of his points came on the PP lined up with Marty and Stamkos.
Tampa thought that their chances of winning were better off w/ Val Filppula and Alex Killorn... that says a lot about how far Vinny has fallen. - Tomahawk
None of that changes that the ability and talent is still there, and if healthy is still capable. Unless anyone thinks that the talent seeped out of him during the off season. If you're referring to the buyout, if Lecavalier made 4.5M a year there, as he does here, I bet he'd still be there. So the last comment lacks context. |

The signs were there. Flyers chose to ignore them. - PhillySportsGuy
What signs? He scored at a 67 point pace in Tampa last year.

all of that untapped potential. If only we could put him at center, he'd revert right back to his 2004 days. |

Bring him back in an affordable support role, let him retire a Bolt? He wasn't going to be a top-6 guy for them anymore. - Tomahawk
This is all simply speculation. In my opinion, he would absolutely have been a top 6 guy if he stayed in Tampa. The buyout was all about the contract.

The problem with Vinny is his defense is terrible. If he's not scoring at a high pace, he's a net loss for the team. Thats why were not complaining about Streit right now. He's scoring so it offsets his defensive limitations. |

He wasn't signed to play defense. And he's no worse defensively then Brayden Schenn is.

He is worse than Schenn. Schenn has improved on defense. When he's not with Vinny, there wasn't a problem with his defense. He had a miscue last night, but Vinny has no idea where to be in the defensive zone.
Im not saying Schenn is the next Bergeron, but I think a line of Raffl-Schenn-Simmonds is better than Schenn-VL-Simmonds. |

It will go on forever. The signing was fine. Vinny just got hurt during his first season and never fully recovered.
He's missed significant time for 4 straight years now. I think we should expect injury rather than assume he'll get better when healthy. |

This is not even close to being representative of my opinion. Nothing I've said has come close to intimating that Lecavalier is still the player he was in his prime. He doesn't have to be to effective for the Flyers, and he was never expected to play at the level he played at in his prime. |

Actually he is worse.....Schenn did something that Vinny hasn't done in 7 years last year.....he was a plus player....and at 21!!!! |

I don't know of any evidence to support this. This seems to say that when Schenn has a problem defensively, it's because of Lecavalier. Lecavalier has been a top player in this League for 15 years. Now all of a sudden he isn't. And the injury and the position switch have zero to do with anything. And he has no idea where to be in the defensive zone.
I'll take that bet with Lecavalier at Center. |

+/- doesn't determine if a player is a good or bad defensive player.

True....but safe to assume they didn't think they were getting a 40 pt forward with a horrible +\-either....not at 4.5 mil a season .....
