I think they would have kept Vinny at the contract he signed here. They couldn't justify keeping him for seven years at $7.727 million. That's almost as much as Kessel's new contract.

Agreed, it wasn't the player so much as the cap/term.

Makes things fun. I think we have a good team that has shown us they're indeed a good team. Don't really understand why people don't see it.

We could look at Chicago and find things to poop on them about too. But guess what? The Flyers have something ridiculous like a .600 win% since what? Thanksgiving?

This team is going to make the playoffs, and this team is going to play well enough to at the bare minimum stay afloat over the next few weeks. Just enjoy the ride

I am loving the optimism.
That said, what are you doing on this board?

But really, I see them as, at the very least, a playoff contender. They should at least be playing meaningful games in April, which is a lot better than last year. And yes, they CAN play with any team in the league. The problem is, they have had letdowns for long stretches of games all season long, and when you do that against a top tier and/or hard-working team, that's going to create big problems. I'd just like the guys to all bear down for the last stretch. If they do, they have the talent to come out just fine.

Simmer's stride-length to weight ratio is ridiculous.... it's like he's made of carbon fiber.

He's surprisingly fast for a guy as tall as he is. His stickhandling leaves something to be desired though, as he's not the smoothest at handling the puck. He does his best work down low, and has been one of the best 5 Flyers (maybe best 3) all season long.

First, yes, those players are unlikely to move, as they are considered the building blocks. I consider B. Schenn to be one of ours, so I'd want one in return. Also, I don't know what "defensive centers" or "bigger physical wingers" your proposal had, so I don't think that fits Edmonton's needs.Yes, I'd like to have Ekblad the same way I'd like to have Nurse. But I'm not going to move a huge boatload of proven talent and promise for a one-way soft player and a guy who's a prospect, albeit a very highly regarded one. I'm not saying a move won't get made, but for a guy who's never played a game at any pro level, I'd prefer we don't rip holes in our roster and/or prospect pool.
- jmatchett383

Oh I wasnt refering to the "trade" I was talking about... I was just throwing that out there... But I do have a feeling something gets done between the Flyers and Edmonton. Edmonton has had a hard-on for Simmonds since he was in LA. And Couturier fits that defensive center.

I'm just being fortutious that a deal bewteen the 2 cities is going to happen at the draft....

Would you give up Simmonds and Coutuer for Hall? Just curious.

Think it had more to do with them trying to build a speed/skill team, and him not really fitting in anymore. They tried like mad to find players that he could find chemistry with, but it was pretty futile.... guys like Killorn and Conacher played at too high a pace for him, and they wanted Marty w/ Stamkos.
- Tomahawk

If they were hell bent on dumping him then why did they try to get Toronto to sign and trade him back to TB for a pick?

Regarding Schenn and Couts... a KIA can have top-end speed if you give it long enough to accelerate.

I have never seen Hartnell skate, and say... wow he has wheels. More like... Is he skating in sand?

Simmer is average... I give you that...

They are a frindge playoff team. Good teams are Pittsburg, Boston, Chicago, Anaheim.

However, once you make the playoffs, anything can happen.

Bring him back in an affordable support role, let him retire a Bolt? He wasn't going to be a top-6 guy for them anymore.

I think it's a possibility. I wouldn't give up Couturier for Hall. Simmonds for Hall is a tough one, but I'd keep Simmonds. The scoring discrepancy isn't all that wide, and Simmonds will give you more than Hall will (although Hall is far from one-dimensional). Also, Hall's cap hit is higher, so I'd stay away.

Lastly, I'd prefer the Flyers to use their high-end assets, if they use them at all, to go after defense, their area of need. Top-end forwards are nice to have, but they're not our glaring need.

Your optimism disgusts me. You'll be the angriest person when they spit the bit and stumble head long into the gutter over these last 4 weeks.

They won't want him back.

Edit: It would be like Montreal saying "Well, the Flyers would take Briere back. They want him to retire there"

Lol, he trains with Tavares and some of the other Isle's youngsters in the summer.

It's pronounced Church-man.
