Actually, the rule simply states that it's the referee's discretion.

69.6
Rebounds and Loose Pucks
-
In a rebound situation, or where a
goalkeeper and attacking player(s) are simultaneously attempting to
play a loose puck, whether inside or outside the crease, incidental
contact with the goalkeeper will be permitted, and any goal that is
scored as a result thereof will be allowed.
In the event that a goalkeeper has been pushed into the net
together with the puck by an attacking player after making a stop, the
goal will be disallowed. If applicable, appropriate penalties will be
assessed.
If, however, in the opinion of the Referee, the attacking
player was pushed or otherwise fouled by a defending player causing
the goalkeeper to be pushed into the net together with the puck, the
goal can be permitted

- Jsaquella

The rule I was referring to is rule 69. I don't think it would be considered a rebound situation, or a loose puck.

A guy who revels in his clumsiness with the whole #hartnelldown thing probably isn't going to get the benefit of the doubt in a call like that, just like Zac Rinaldo and Steve Downie don't get the benefit of the doubt on calls.

The real story of the game is the Flyers getting 6 pp chances and not scoring on any of them.

That's the issue we can fix - yes. I agree with you.
But that doesn't lesson the whole Downie called for Marty's flopping, for taking a high stick, etc, which was also a strong theme. It was obvious the refs were flustered all game - it didn't help they determined the outcome in such a real way.

This is two games in a row where the Flyers got legitimate goals disallowed because of bad calls.

That was a goal last night. That was a play that happens in almost every game.

When you are one of the highest penalized teams in the league you are not going to get the benefit of the doubt from the refs. The refs gave the Flyers plenty of opportunity to get back in the game last night. The Flyers didn't take advantage. They didn't lose because of the refs bad calls.

That game was just painful to watch. Gotta love the two phantom calls on the Flyers because the refs feel the need to even things up. The made up boarding call with the Jersey defenseman reaching his head out to try to touch the boards to get the call leads to the game winning goal. Then the game tying goal gets disallowed because hartnell gets too close to the goalie and none of the replays ever really show hartnell making any significant contact with the goalie.

Painful to watch. I just don't understand NHL refereeing.

Pretty often? Not really. I'd say it's 50-50. I've seen a lot of goals scored like that that ended up counting, because the contact was incidental, rather than intentional.

I honestly think the refs went to the phone because after they saw the replay they had second thoughts and figured "Well, we can blame it on Toronto if we make a call"

Otherwise, there's zero reason to call Toronto. The call the ref made is non reviewable. At that point, all Toronto can do is say, "Well, go drop the puck"

- Jsaquella

League stature plays a big part in these kinds of 50-50 calls... on one hand, you have arguably the best goalie to ever play the game... on the other, Hartnell and Downie, who have outsize reputations for a different reason.

I bet Hartnell and Downie have a better off-ice reputation.

No, they didn't lose because of bad officiating, but officiating didn't help, either.

If the Flyers had simply acheived something in the neighborhood of their season avg on the PP, they probably come away with, at least, a point.

But the officiating, for both sides, made for a much less entertaining product, on the whole.

Just saw a replay of that hit. Phaneuf is just the worst.

It looked to me that Phaneuf actually left his skates to deliver that hit.
