Caps and pens are supposed to be a fierce rivalry. Im sorry I didn't see it last night. Not much stuff after the whistle at all. I think the flyers can be dangerous if they get to playoffs. They are playing with tenacity

The pens certainly look like the same team. They don't worry me

- Just5

That's funny, because when I was watching the Caps last week, I was remarking on how much they reminded me of the Pens, insofar as how easy it can seem to throw them off of their game.

They're not. They've met once in the playoff since OV/Sid entered the league. It's a rivalry the NHL is trying to promote.

The problem is that the Caps see the Flyers and Penguins as their big rivals, but it doesn't go the other way, not even close.

Scary situation with Peverley.

That they had to use a defibrillator is intense. I've been trained on it, but to actually think of using one... Damn.

At least the Caps have some old timey history in the old Patrick Division.

When the Caps were in that Southern division, that was just downright silly.

How bad does that Volchenkov contract look. Could be bought out this summer.

Always thought highly of Peverley, with the way he played, so I wasn't surprised to hear he wanted to get back out there.

Volchenkov was supposed to be the big prize elite shutdown D-man on the market that summer he signed that contract.

And the (frank)ing guy wanted to get in the game when he came to. Unbelievable.

He shouldn't be commended for that imo. Guy needs to think long and hard about his future, for the sake of his family.

Cardiac issues are no laughing matter, and a simple dehydration (loss of potassium) can bring the onset of another episode.

I've had patients in the hospital who have their whole lives turned upside down because of stuff like that. He is damn lucky.

If he is, we should pick him up. We could use a big, physical shutdown defenseman.

Guy is a gamer; that's what I was complimenting.

Obviously, I agree that he's got a family to consider.

I'll be happy to some extent if they fail to make the playoffs now that they have to play real teams.

Mike Gillis read it totally wrong up there. He couldn't have read it more incorrectly had he tried.

They bench Roberto Luongo, a respected veteran, and anoint Cory Schneder the starter. They extend Schneider and expressly tell him, and the world, that Luongo will be traded and he will not.

So...Gillis trades Schneider.

They fire Alain Vigneault, which is defensible...but bring in John Tortorella. With the not-so-subtle reason being "We think you're soft, and it's your fault that you haven't won."

Tortorella loses his mind, gets suspended. All while preaching accountability and discipline.

Tortorella returns, decides to play the "hot goalie" in Eddie Lack...therefore leaving Luongo on the bench for the Heritage Classic. Respected Veteran Roberto Luongo, who has endured much in Vancouver.

Luongo is traded.

Yeah. I think it's safe to say that the players have had just about enough of who's telling them what to do in Vancouver.

- AllInForFlyers

I agree. The entire thing is a mess out there. Fonzie will get poop canned along with Gillis at the end of the year.

The Pitt-Pitt-off-Chi games are going to be tough. Whether it's Heeter or Emery, someone's going to need to get one of those starts. If Mason plays the back-to-back against Pittsburgh, his arms will be so heavy from all those SA that he won't be able to lift them for a few days. And I don't think I want our backup in either of them.
- jmatchett383

Hopefully Emery is ready to go this weekend. Points are so valuable, can't afford to start Heeter against one of these teams.

I mention this stuff about Vancouver not just because it interests me, but because it loops back to how the Flyers need to be careful with Vinny Lecavalier.

I'm not saying that, overall, Lecavalier has been the most amazing player ever.

I am saying that players see how you treat them. They see how you treat them when they're hurt, when they're less than productive. They see how you treat "respected veterans," free agents who come and play for you.

The Flyers took a hit a few years back when they moved Richards and Carter after signing them, long-term, before their no-trades kicked in. That was not a shining moment for the franchise.

How they handle Lecavalier...it will have consequences. The guy did have a broken bone in his back, and also sustained that bad facial injury in that fight.

Again: I acknowledge that he hasn't produced quite as much as I thought.

But how they treat him...it will matter. Players are human. In a cap world, how your organization is perceived does matter.

Did you see Heeter's face after Mason gave up those 2 quick goals against Toronto?

Kid looked like he was going to poop himself at the idea of coming in to play.

If that's the case, I'm sure moving JvR after he signed his extension and using a buy-out on Bryz 2 years into his 9-year deal aren't getting them any brownie points either.

They could respectfully ask him if he wanted to be traded to a team where he can play center. Perhaps back to Tampa at the draft for Ryan Malone.

I think it does hurt them -- the Bryz thing, people could see coming. But a guy like JVR...guys get traded, sure. But it doesn't help when you tell guys that they're your future, then move them.

That's my opinion, and I do acknowledge that guys get traded all the time. But sometimes, how you trade them...it doesn't look good.

To me, that's exactly what has to happen -- they have to work with him to help him find a team that he wants to go to. It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if Tampa found a spot for him, after the St. Louis debacle.

FWIW, I do think Vinny has looked better since the Olympic break.

I would rather give 'em the Heeter than play Mase twice in 24 hours, or start Emery if he is not 100%.
