I'll explain further. If Gagne was a declining player, that whats the issue with trading him? He's declining. The Organization was citicized because they traded a declining player.
And then on the other hand, they're criticized for signing a declining player in Lecavalier.
Damned if they do, damned if they don't. - MJL
If they signed Vinny to a one year deal, I don't think anyone would be complaining a ton about it.
It has everything to do with term |

The only time I root for the Penguins is when they are so far ahead in the standings and are playing against a team that is close in points to the Flyers, such as tonight's game against Washington.... Go Penguins. |

Bingo.
And the gripe over trading Gags had everything to do with the return (and reason for trading him in the first place). |

Okay, it's time for today's installment of the throw up in your mouth game.
Let's say that Kimmo Timonen comes back next year...as a Pittsburgh Penguin (just stay with me here, don't use logic). The Flyers are knocked out of playoff contention, and the Penguins reach the SCF against the Blues. Do you root for the Penguins so that Timonen can finally get a Cup? - jmatchett383
Yep I would. Do you want the Blues to win a Cup? If that happens it's one less team with a longer Cup drought than the Flyers have.
Buffalo
St. Louis
Washington
Vancouver
Toronto
That's it. |

I think if they just toned it down on some of these hooking calls it could help a bit.
Let it be reffed like its the playoffs. |

That is the most ridiculous logic I have ever heard. You would rather see our hated rival win another cup than a team who hasnt won one about as long as we havent? |

I'd love to see them remove the trapezoid just in time for Marty to retire. |

Nobody can follow your logic... are you trying to equate a good soldier with over 10+ seasons of service with a guy who's been here for 50-games, or trying to equate a guy with a year left on his deal with a guy they chose to sign in UFA? - Tomahawk
I'm not equating the players. The contradiction is in the criticism, not the players, and how long they've been with the team. Declining is the common ground between the two players and where the contradiction lies.
Traded a declining player, criticized for it.
Signed a declining player, criticized for it.
Like I said earlier, from the towel girl on up to the Owner. |

Well, signing one for 4 years at 4 mill a piece or trading Gagne for Matt Walker.
Both are rightfully criticized. Not damned if you dont damned if you dont. - jak521
That misses the point I'm making. The return of the trade is not what I'm talking about. Nor am I talking about the exact deal that Lecavalier got.

But in the scenario you brought up, you said people are complaining about trading one fading star, and complaining about signing another.
Unfortunately, thats not what people complained about.
What was the point? |

It hasn't worked out so far. Towards the end of the deal it will. Jagr is having a much better year in NJ this year then he had with the Flyers. Healthier too. Hasn't missed a game, and he played in the Olympics as well.
As guys get older, they get better. |

but you cant deny the recent history between the pens and flyers. guarantee if you ask players from both teams who their most hated rival team is they would say each other. |

Recent history yes. Pens have been a rival. Besides the Crosby years, and when Mario was a Penguin, they haven't been competitive. As a young kid I remember seeing the Pens play in person (pre-Mario) and thinking god this team sucks. |

The only reason you guys have such hatred for the Rags and Devils is because of how successful they were during the 90's and early 2000's.
If the Devils sucked in the 90's and the Pens won 2-3 cups while knocking the Flyers out a couple of times, the Pens would be at the top.
Well, over the past 7 years or so, its really been Pens-Flyers.
Rivalries do change.
EDIT: Not being snarky either... Just saying that these days I hate the Pens more than any team. When I was 13 it was Devils and it wasnt even close. |

So boil two completely different ideas down to one common point... then try to construct a contradiction out of that. Ok.
I love pizza. I hate hot dogs. Both are foods. Bam! Contradiction. |

1995, and 2000 series vs. the Devils are as painful as it gets being a fan. Flyers had teams that could have won Cups in those years. The Stevens hit on Lindros crushed hopes and dreams. I despise the Devils.

Yes, but it's not really the Pens. It's more of a Sid/Geno thing, from our side. You remove them from the equation, and they go back to 3rd place (or lower) behind NYR and NJ. |

The only thing more painful that 2000 was being at Game in 2010 in person. Game 7 2004 is close too. Those 3 teams (95, 00, 04) would have won at least 2 Cups. |
