It seemed that NMC/NTC were all the rage for a few years, but I think many GMs have become hip to how hamstrung they make any given team and are much more hesitant to hand them out. So I think the value of them will start to increase. - climbdenali12
everyone can look at the Canucks and see how effed they are |

It hasn't been talked about much here as far as I saw but Sather said the Rangers and Cally agreed on terms AND dollars, but then Cally wanted a NTC. Sather said, only if you take less money. Cally said no and boom traded. If we gave him a NTC he's be here. I think you are right. It isn't a given for players anymore and will hold some value. |

it may have been the only reason Girardi's deal took so long too |

true, and when things get real bad you have to figure some guys with NMCs will start to look for a way out but it still limits the team. |

it's very possible Kesler would be a Ranger right now and the Canucks had gotten a heck of a package from us without him having a NTC |

McDonagh has one that doesn't start until 2016, like we would ever trade him.
Hopefully Bob Gainey never takes over for Sather as GM - jimbro83
Problem with NTC aren't the team wanted to deal the player but the player then wanting to be traded but demanding it be to one team. Then your (frank)ed. that's why no matter the player I wouldn't give it to them unless I get $ in return. |

I'm OK with Girardi's deal cause it truly give the Rangers flexiblity. Anything can happen but I find it safe to assume that G will still be a very productive player over the next 3yrs+. If at that time his play starts to decline or the Rangers are having a tough year he will still have a lot of value as a 'veteran right handed Dman' and will command a decent return on the trade market.

Do we know what that package would have been? Didn't start with Stepan

I don't think they got to that point of talking players, I think he was probably asked what teams he would take a trade to and NY was not one of them |

Jim Matheson at the Edmonton Journal (via Spectors Hockey) says because there's no state income tax in the state of Florida, he wouldn't be surprised if Ryan Callahan re-signed in Tampa for five-years, $25 million.
Here's Callahan's agent, Steve Bartlett, on the benefits to his client playing out his contract in Tampa...
“Ryan can take a test-drive there and vice versa. There’s no gun to anybody’s head. I love that attitude. You can take 10-per-cent less in Florida than New York and have it be the same amount of money.” |

That annoys the poop out of me. So 6 for 36 in New York wasn't enough but a year and 11 million less is enough in Florida. Bartlett is scum. |
