we will keep that in mind, because you know that clearly was a major focus today. |

On Eric Staal, I think the guy is a great player. But, is he $8.25 million against the cap great? He carries a big, big number, and I think the idea of getting him, given the assets it would take to give up and the Rangers salary cap situation is just really, really far fetched. - Pete V
I don't think there is a chance in hell.
Maybe they'll consider adding him as UFA signing summer of 2016 |

Answer: No, he is not $8.25M against the cap great, certainly not this year.
Unfortunately the Canes have several huge and long contracts where performance is no where near cap value. We need a new GM |

No thanks. I always liked Eric, but it seems to me he has really lost a step or two. Doesn't seem to be the dynamic game changer he used to be. Maybe its because I don't see him on a regular basis, but he hasn't impressed me in the last 2 years. |

Time to blow it up, you arent getting any closer to a playoff contending team, too many question marks with depth of forwards, dcore, and uncertainity of Ward in net.
Maybe a few player for player swaps with the canucks can get the ball rolling. Would a kelser or edler for J staal be a good start? |

I agree completely. I just wish he would show more fire and emotion on the ice as well as being more vocal. |

I think he shows a lot of personality in the locker room that we just don't see on the ice. My favorite Girardi moment is them showing him pumping up the team for the Winter Classic. Clearly the room loves and listens to the guy. I think we all want our Captains to be Mess but that's not how it goes sometimes.

The blowing up must start with Rutherford, need a new set of eyes to come in, assess talent we have, and make some major changes.
With Ruutu now (mostly) off the books, if they can find a way to get rid of that Ward contract, there should be some money freeing up to help the forward depth.
Personally, will pass on Edler....but would love to see Kesler in a Canes uniform. |

I don't see either Edler or Kesler waiving their no trades clauses to go to Carolina. |

Neither do I , but you would have to assume those are the kind of deals that the Canes need to make, grabbing player, prospect, draft pick packaged deals is committing to a complete rebuild. |

Whats Kirk like for a coach? Is he working out with just a bum hand dealt to him based on what Rutherford has assembled for a team, or is a coaching change needed too? |

we are playing well right now, things are pretty good in Rangerland all things considering.
I don't see the organzation moving heaven and earth in order to turn us into the Carolina Hurricanes right about now. |

I think the Rangers lineup right now is good enough to be a threat. Are they the favorite? No. Do I think it is a possibility that they can win the Stanley Cup with this lineup? With great goaltending, timely scoring, and great defensive play, yes I do. I think they are good enough to give it a run in the next couple of years, and they can't keep turning over the lineup every year. |

He also scored some points from me by racing down the ice to get the puck for Hank as soon as the game ended yesterday. |

Amen to that and upon further consideration, looking at what the Staals make in relation to what the current Rangers are making and what they are both producing I will take our current top 9 versus the proposed one, no disrespect to the poster of course. |

You know what I think would have been a real reasonable thing to agree to in the last CBA? I think it would have been reasonable to give an organization the choice of either utilizing both of their compliance buyouts, or in lieu of utilizing one or both of the buyouts, being able to take a 20% cap reduction against a players' salary -- i.e., still pay the player the contracted salary, but getting a % of cap relief, rather than having to buyout the player. Obviously, that would have caused a lot less upheaval in player movement, and would have provided an accomodation to contracts signed under a different system.

The defense and goaltending are the two constants this team has always had they tend to travel real well which is why they have played so well on the road. The "X" factor has always been special teams especially that PP in a big moment in a critical game in the April and May....there is no disputing the improvement there pre-MSL, and now with MSL in the fold, how can we not get our hopes up just a little, not too much, these are our Rangers but you have to be encouraged. If we caught that break with the back to back delay of game penalties last season are the Rangers scoring there? Given how awful the PP was, I think they were worse with a 2 man advantage than the one man advantage.... |

But that would "reward teams" that signed big contracts to players. The new CBA was a war on those long contracts as seen by the stupid cap recapture poop. It wasn't even thought out, it was just thrown in there to punish teams. I.e. the longer Luongo plays and actually HONORS the contract he signed bigger the penalty. If he backs out in the last year, Nucks are stuck with a $7.5M penalty. Assinine. |

The Semin deal never made any sense to me, also guys like Boychuk, Dalpe and Nash never panned out, still some chips to build around like Skinner, Faulk and Murphy |

i get that but take into consideration that e.staal is having one of his worst seasons, last year he turned Jiri tlusty into one of the top goal scorers so imagine what he could do with guys like kreider and nash. and on top of that by adding those two it would make us a huge and imposing team and it would cover up the fact that both MSL and zucc play on this team. by adding those two we wouldn't have to be scared to play boston because we would be bigger. |
