i expect Vanek to be an upgrade over Brendan Gallagher, yes. and i also expect Gallagher to upgrade whatever line he moves to, as so far in his career that's been the case. you can argue your case for the status quo, but i don't see much evidence in the past 3 games that Therrien is getting the most out of Vanek.

Play Plekanec with Gallagher and Galchenyuk. 3rd line of Prust-Eller-Gionta.

no he generates nothing because he plays against the David Krejci line or the Jason Spezza line or the Sidney Crosby line. you're not going to drive offence against those lines no matter who your wingers are. you're going to focus on keeping them out of your zone first and then pushing the puck up the ice second.

So play him with two other shut down guys. Why do they feel they need to make him think he needs to lead the team offensively. He should be like Charbonneau was.

I like this. Although I'm not convinced Vanek with DD and Pac is an optimal mix, I do like the other 2 lines better than the current BS MT is throwing out there.

Funny how in MTL we can't have an offensive line go out against the other offensive lines...

Whatever happened to the coach matching his lines in favor of generating offense ?

they used to do that with Koivu.
but Therrien is conservative. his main concern is preventing goals.

I trust him less as an offensive threat...plus he's got two guys who can cover for him...

i would trust him on a line with Gallagher and Galchenyuk, because it's worked before, and if you had Desharnais with Pacioretty and Vanek drawing the opposition's top D, they would get soft minutes.

Koivu was a real #2 as Plek has always been. You build them up to be #1s and you create false expectations. Plek plays a solid two way game. Surround him with other defensively responsible guys and let it be.

Play Eller with Gallagher and Galchenyuk so he looks good and TRADE HIM AT THE DRAFT!

Maybe snow will give you Tavares for him.

Voilà

Vanek with DD, EGG line, Plek with defensive forwards and hope they can all hit the net!

Leave the lines the way they were for most of the third period last night.

Eventually they will produce.

But Mike won't do that, he needs to think of something smarter...
