at what age?

he's only 6 and going into novice next year. I want him to try other things.

- dt99999

Probably from 5-13. I went away from home to Lake Placid when I was about 10-12. I'd also encourage him to try other things. I was just fortunate there was a good hockey camp near our cottage.

hey pete, your kids ever play hockey in summer? mine wants to go to hockey camp but I kinda like him to do other sports in summer.
- dt99999

My oldest was the hockey player, pretty good too.

I would not allow any hockey after the season/provincials were over.

He would have loved to play, but Mrs26 had them at the lake through the summer.

Sept. to the end of March/April is enough, IMO.

One year I played for a summer team. I think I had less than a month away from hockey that year.

Very common. Both my boys played basically year round. They still had time for other sports.

How the (frank) do you expect your kid to make millions in the NHL if you don't sign him up for hours of drills every day year round and beat him when he doesn't score a goal in a game?????

Oh wait, that's how a former teammate went first overall in the QMJHL draft only to burn out a year later and never go anywhere with hockey and have no education to fall back on.......

Took a power skating hockey school 2 month camp over the summer when I was 13...(frank). I was not prepared. 5 of the kids went on to the OHL and one is in the AHL.

We did take him and his buddy to Penticton for the OK hockey school one summer, but that was more of a family vacation, as we used to live there.

They were promised to be on team North America, ended up on team Korea, ya Korea, with 4 or 5 American kids and 8 or 9 Koreans.

That nut job Bryant Perrier was their coach for the two weeks.

You would have been in b with me because the coaches aka the people who evaluated the kids decided what level you were in based on how fast you could stick handle through cones. That and how fast you could do 16 suicides from the goal line to the top of the circle.
