You know how to defense the flyers?

Cover everyone in the d zone except for Grossman.

Let's uh....let's not do that again. Still a lot of game left.

I think this is winnable, so long as the tighten up the D. Their offensive zone pressure was actually pretty commendable imo

Gave up way too many chances in that period. If they can tighten up defensively, I see no reason why they can't get back in this game. They will get their chances.

they settled it down a bit. you have to wonder how the flyers could skate with this team in a 7 game series. dont like the matchup.

Weak interference call there.

Somebody tell Read to pull his head out of his ass, please.

Mason looked less shaky as it wound down...team defense has been awful, not helping him a lot.

agreed.

neither one of these teams seems to have a clue about defensive zone coverage.

I thought he got better. They won't win if they continue to play this up and down game. Wouldn't be a bad idea to keep the third man a bit higher than normal. Our defenseman need some help.

Game # 5 since the Olympic break, and while 3-1, by my calculations that is their 5th dreadfull period out of 13.

2nd period vs. Sharks
2nd period vs. Rags
1 & 2 period @ Wash
3rd period vs. Wash

Schedule is going to be brutal the next 2 weeks, need some 60 minute complete games.

They do, not a great period. Need to get pucks deep and get on their defense. Flyers are going to get plenty of chances in this game to get back in it. Too much skating room and Toronto is getting it reved up full speed. No neutral zone pressure.

Regardless, I blame Jay Rosehill and Luke Schenn. That period was entirely on those two players. Everyone else played great!

They haven't always played like an 8-2 team, is the point he was making.

8-2 is 8-2. But let's not focus on anything positive, and just look at the negative.

Nah... I mean these 30-40 minute efforts are going to be plenty good enough to beat the Pens, Hawks, at the house of horrors MSG etc...

My First Period Thoughts -

If Rinaldo lays down or kneels down he blocks the first goal.

Schenn back checks like the defensive minded forward some claim he is (a younger Kesler they say) and that 2nd goal never happens.

Our defense is very weak when teams get speed and drive wide around them.

The ice looks terrible. I'd imagine better ice playing in Canada.

Nice o-zone time. Need someone driving the net though. Toronto looks a ton better attacking the net.

Hartnell is holding Giroux back, IMO.

Funny how the announcers rag on coots for having to sell the elbow. Refs rarely call anything unless you sell it. Part of the game.

That call on Simmonds was terrible.

I can't stand how all skaters are taught to play goalie on every freakin' shot... if Rinaldo closes the gap on Gardiner there, chances are the shot deflects off his stick into the crowd.
