Always like these Toronto games.

How I originally saw the team in NA. The Leafs were the first team I grew hatred for.

Good time to get them. They've been hot.

Chief seems to have his job cut out for him. The young forwards still take some time off during the games, and refuse to play D. I really don't know the reason for this, but geeze they seem to get into that bad habit. I really question their work ethic, and maybe it's time to get some vets into the mix to provide them with some leadership. I am glad that G figured things out, before we had to trash the season. Don't get me wrong, G is a great player, but I am really starting to question his leadership skills. Yes, he can lead the team against the Pens, but is there any other team that he can get the Flyers over the hump against (playoff time)?
Just some thoughts for the off season.

I don't know, I just recently watched Giroux get pissed off and carry the team on a back to back against the Caps. I don't question his heart or competitiveness for one second.
But the penalty and inconsistency issues are something that the player leadership is going to have to correct. That is still ongoing.

Please remove the check next to "Good on PP" for Leafs.

Thank you

Recent games, they've struggled. For the season, they're still top four in the NHL.

I think Giroux is a good leader. The team seems to follow him and really respect him as a player and a man. He's, also, done a good job of being the off ice captain. Does the interviews when no one else wants to and treats media members with respect (something his predecessor wasn't very good at).

The only area I'd like to see him improve is his defensive coverage. He gets out of position and chases the puck in the defensive zone at times. If your best player and captain is playing a little loose defensively, the rest of the team is going to follow.

His worst plays seem to happen when he's trying to do too much. I can live with that for now. Its better to have it that way than a player who isn't trying hard enough.

Overall, I think he's a good captain. I'm not worried about the team's leadership now or in the future.

Yup, when G gets ticked, he revs it up. whats frustrating bout the inconsistency and stupidity is that the worst culprits, Hartnell and Downie, are guys that should have enough experience to know better. Funny how 2 of the most disciplined players on the club are an Austrian rookie and a 21 year old center!

I haven't had a chance to comment in the past few days, but the Caps game they played some of their best hockey for two periods. The third was terrible, but that game summed up these current Flyers. When they show up they can compete with any team, but rarely do they do that for a full game. This team needs to bring it for a full 60. When they get there feet moving they are really fun to watch. Seems Rinaldo is playing like he did last year and when he does it really helps this team.

I don't think anyone expects them to dominate every period like they did in those first 2 periods, but they need to contain the damage when things aren't going their way. They can't let teams put up big numbers during certain periods. After allowing a goal, they need to regroup and get things moving in the right direction.

Spot on. He needs to take a man in his own zone more. The caps 3rd goal the Brouwer goal was all on him. He became to focused on hillen the puck carrier after giroux had claimed the slot area defensively. He vacates it and hillen slides the pass to a wide open Brouwer

First post I've read pointing that out. But I thought the same, that Rinaldo played a very strong game.

Toronto is a strange team when it comes to advanced Stats. They allow a ton of shots, block a ton of shots, register a lot of hits and are a playoff team.
- PhillySportsGuy

Possibly one of the strangest teams ever in this regard. If they make the playoffs they'll be one of the worst possession teams to ever do so.

Always love a Philly vs. Toronto game, I'm looking forward to this one tonight, should be a dandy.

You're right, coverage there is man to man, and Brower was Giroux's man. But he was focused on the puck and didn't look around.

Some of the better possession teams in the League are the Devils, Dallas, Vancouver, and Ottawa. All out of a playoff spot.

It didn't help one bit that Coburn and Timonen both ended up on the same side of the ice along the wall. That's a cardinal sin, too.

But it was 4 on 4 where coverage is man to man.

theyll possess it, but they dont really do anything with it. and then when they do surrender possession, quality chances against ensue.

I wasn't aware of that, interesting. Basically the Leafs are the case study that you can overcome a lot with scoring and goaltending. If we could get some defense we'd be getting somewhere.

They've managed to do it on the back of shootout wins, a lot of extra points from OT's, and really high PDO (high SH% and SV%, aka puck luck).

I wouldn't be scared at all to face them in the PO's -- if they make it.

Something along those lines for sure. Since the numbers are based on shots, something is happening. But I just think that possession is important no doubt, but not all that it is made out to be.

No doubt. Lots of ways to win. And winning is what is most important obviously.
