Baseless argument. It's absolutely plausible that he wanted to keep the pick they year after the cup run to attempt to immediately build upon what was a very good team.

There's rarely much difference between the latter half of the first round. It makes plenty of sense to keep a first round pick after a Cup run. You'd be better off sacrificing a mid 20's pick this year if you thing you can build a powerhouse like Chicago, Pitt, or LA.

Btw, I would like to credit your GM for his masterful handling of the teams goaltending situation over the last 8 months.

He picked 29th because he figured he would be picking in the 20's for the next few years. His though process was the 29th pick in that draft would be closer to playing in the nhl then a player taken a year after because he would of had an extra year to develop. He probably felt pretty confident that after coming that close to a cup that Parise would resign and he had no clue about Kovalchuk retiring at that point.

This move by the NHL is like x-ray vision towards the Devils haters... you can tell all the idiots in the media that hated this move are real haters.
