All he was saying (that I replied to) was, "What does Hasek have to do with #30" or something along those lines. The answer is nothing. It has to do with the players who wore the numbers are their relative level of play while with the Sabres.
- jmatchett383

No. It had to do with 39 is not the same number as 30.

The favor sounds decent I suppose, but they have a ton of cap space for next year, especially with Heatley all washed up and washed out. Meh. I actually see it as a favor to us. He's more of a player than McCormick is and less of a fighter. We already have Scott and Konopka. He's younger and injured much less often. This move makes me wonder about the future of Konopka and Scott on this team. Obviously I'd rather keep Konopka for all things brawl, drop Scott and hold onto Mitchel. Would make for a stiff fourth line who can win a ton of faceoffs.

It seems pretty well known that they are gonna get Vanek...
They aren't the Rangers or Leafs, so it helps to subtract a 2mil player when u plan on adding a 7mil+ guy
Maybe they wanna keep Moulson as well
Or will go after a goalie?
Assuming they do get Vanek, they might be able to talk Miller into signing there
They can fill Mitchell's role with a guy that makes half the price, so they might as well dump him on us

"This is some Mickey-Mouse sports league bullsh..." One of my favorite phrases ever. A now retired professor of mine used to say it all the time. Hearing a 72 year old man rant and rave and call labor unions by this phrase is a life endearing experience.

I'd bet my left nut he doesn't go there. Miller needs a long term deal and Minny wouldn't dare give it to him with Kuemper there. No less Harding..

Similar to when MLB retired Jackie Robinsons #. WHen an expansion team comes about before they play a second of the game they have a number retired comon, just dumb

Oh and to poke the bear for a guy who may not even be the best player to ever play the game to boot

- hubie

There's a difference between "retiring a number" and not being able to issue the number to anyone...
It's not like there's Gretzky banners hanging in every arena

And he's EASILY the best player of all time
He's got more Assists, then anyone else has total points!
Plus all those cups

Who else would u even put in his class?
Mario if he could've stayed healthy?
Everyone says Orr is #2, but I've only seen stats & highlites, so it's tough for me to have much of an opinion about him

Oh wait, I almost forgot...
"Crosby is the best player of all-time"

I'm aware of that. What is has to do with is the players who wore those respective numbers, and their relative level of play. If it's okay to wear the number of a better former player, why would there be a problem with wearing the number of a former player who was not as good?

Again, timeframe is a different issue.

My new made up rumor/idea:

At the draft:

Make a trade with Vancouver to get Kesler. Send Ennis (I doubt they would take Hodgson back I would prefer to send him actually) Pysyk and assuming its not a top 5 pick from the Islanders that pick

Draft Reinhart.

Reasoning:

It all ties to Patty Kane. He likes playing with Kesler. Kane hasn't come out and said he is staying in Chi-Town. I think he would take notice if his hometown team made a move to get Kesler.

Even with Kesler the Sabres are still a lottery team

In 2015:

Kane Kesler Stafford
Stewart Hodgson/Ennis Reinhart
Foligno McDavid Girgensons

Then I turned off the XBox

I really need something besides numbers to talk about

When did he say that? I don't know if they will retire his jersey until next year. There are other members of the Sabres HOF whose numbers arent retired.
- Stripes77

it was a questionand he answered in a season ticket holders special events
he said it would be next year

I'd out a few other places as the favorites ahead of them
But Harding might have to retire. It's sad, but they certainly can't rely on him
They wouldn't dare sign one of the best goalies in the league bc they have a young goalie that's never won a playoff game?
He's "promising" but they are going for a Cup
MAYBE they feel he's ready to lead them...
Or maybe they want a more established Vet

Not saying it WILL happen
But it's a reasonable possibility

That the number would be retired or he would be inducted into the Hall of Fame? Cause I think they would hold a separate ceremony for his number to be retired

Hahaha... I like the optimism though!

As far as Kane goes,
It seems like ppl think this is really gonna happen
It would be pretty shocking for him to leave Chicago
Sure, there's a chance...
But I don't think it's reasonably worth talking about unless next season starts and he hasn't been extended yet

Ok, since you opened this can, you're about to see what comes out.

Kesler. Top line forward to build around? Eh...not really. I mean, I'd LOVE that guy to be here. But acquiring him would be expensive as hell and I don't think he's worth his weight in gold. So then we go to the premise of picking him up for the sole reason of attracting Kane. I like where your head's at. But the gamble there is way too great. The condition of
A. Grab Kesler for Ennis, Pysyk, Sabres 1st, Sabres 2nd (probably)
B. Kane doesn't re-sign in Chicago
C. Kane decides to come home.
D. Kane only comes home because the team was aggressive enough to grab Kesler, in which he likes to play with.

That's one hell of a gamble. Would you give up 2014 or 2015 Sabres first for Kes?

Snow has to get fired this offseason
If it keeps going this way, I wouldn't shocked to see Tavares ask out at some point
The only thing Isles fans have to look forward to right now is the new arena in Brooklyn
The one they have now is a joke
I went there when we played them in the playoffs a few years back
Rochester's arena is nicer, no joke

They are fully committed to the rebuild, that would be Garth snoweques giving that much up for a player who would be on the last year of his contract.

The Barclays Center isn't exactly built for Hockey. While it may be nicer yeah, it's not exactly gonna have the best views.

My traded wouldnt include the Sabres 2014 pick but the Islanders pick. That way you get the young forward to build with in Reinhart and use the asset from the Vanek trade to get Kesler. I would think Vancouver would listen considering it would be most likely a top 10 pick. Assuming you could get Kesler to waive his NTC. They have all of these assets but if you could get Kesler without moving Myers I would be for it.

Then in 2014 you wouldnt be a good team still most likely a bottom 5 team and still have your shot at McDavid. If you are lucky enough to get McDavid your forwards would look like McDavid, Reinhart, Kesler, and Girgensons at least. I would think if Patty Kane hits Free Agency he would take notice and come home. Its all a huge what if but I needed some positive light to think about

Love Kesler...
But his age & recent injuries lead me to say he doesn't really for in with our rebuild
He'll prob be declining by the time we're really competing for the cup

Don't forget guys...
We still gotta figure out a goalie for the future
