I hate the idea of 99 being retired NHL wide.

I still find it odd they wouldn't let Conacher have 89. If you're going to retire it, retire it. Until then, if a guy wants it, it's fair game.

To me, it's an iconic number. Anyone should be allowed to wear it, but they should also be chastised unless they can play like him. Because I'm a hypocrite.
- jmatchett383

Some numbers should be given to you, that would be one of them.

Similar to #9 in soccer

IMO there are only 2 numbers that should be off limits 39 and 11. All other should be fair game.

Really? 2 goalies, both very good, one HOFer vs. one All-Star, one retired and one still playing. Pretty sure they're very related. But, to spell it out:

Since Hasek was a better goalie than Miller, and since he has been retired longer, Hasek's number should be retired before Miller's.

- jmatchett383

yes but hasek wore #39 so what does #30 have to do with it?

I really don't mind that the whole French Connection line is retired.

I did, however, have an issue with the fact that the display of their jersey's at the Tully's on Main Street in Williamsville did not have Perreault in the middle. I had to tell them that it was wrong so they would change it. I gave them like 2 years to figure it out before I finally spoke up about it though.

- HonkFortheGoose

I was thinking they should have that little area that they have for the french connection, and then over the middle of the ice, like most teams do it, have the retired numbers and whatever awards they won like president and division and so on.

It has nothing to do with if Miller's number should be retired. It has to do with the quick turnaround that it happened. The face of the franchise for the last decade was traded away and 5 days later you give his number to someone else. Yes they did it with Vanek but Vanek wasnt the face of the franchise
- Stripes77

but again he stated until haseks number is retired #30 should be in play.. not sure what one has to do with the other.. if you replace the letter h with m, a with i, s with ll, and k with r then the statement will make sense..

I think the NHL should retire 10 numbers league wide each season. Then they can start using roman numerals or card suits.

But they wouldnt even let Conacher wear 89 so thats the point so your statement still doesnt make sense no matter how many letters you rearrange

C'mon Kevin...Really? Who the frank cares.

I have a ton of respect for Miller, is he worthy of eventually having his number retired...probably not (close call). Since its up for debate I don't have a single bit of care that anyone else wears it until that day.
