They need 4 dmen 2 goalies a top line RW and an entire 2nd line. They will not miss out on the chance to win the lottery in 2015.
- dadeadhead

If they want to compete, not if they want to get out of the bottom 5. They get a decent tender and blue liner and they separate themselves from the likes of Buffalo and Calgary.

How do we know they'll even be in the running? Their roster with a few tweaks could probably pull out of bottom 5. Having John Tavares certainly helps with that. The odds of them finishing low enough to even challenge for them isn't very good vs finishing the rest of this year without JT probably gives them a real shot at Ekblad.

tbh i don't see any players looking to sign there ..

they got lucky last year

last 4 years they have been in top 5

And miss out on McDavid or Eichel next year? Not a chance.

He probably thought he was so clever making that pick conditional but all that moron did was put himself in a no win situation. Either he keeps the pick this year and gives up the 2015 which could lead to us getting an incredible haul at the draft.

OR, he decides to keep the pick in 2015 and gives away a top 3 pick, as if they can afford a PR nightmare of that magnitude.

- Sabresfan-365

As it's been said on here before. They can't be moving into a new arena in 2015 without a 1st rd pick. We will be getting this year 1st rd pick unless they win the lottery.

Just heard Garth Snow interviewed on the Fan590 in Toronto. Said: "the 2014 draft is relatively weak" and the next gm "had until June 1st to decide" ..interesting

Even if they do win the lottery and they keep the pick and draft Ekblad or even Reinhart they have so many holes in their lineup they arent going to be a very good team. Do they want to be the team that wins the lottery and gives the pick up or the team that missed their chance at a superstar in McDavid? It's a PR nightmare regardless of the way you look at it.

And they also can't move into a new arena and sell the idea of drafting top 3, that's what the JT draft was for. They'll want to sell the idea of a competitive team. Mind you, I'm saying this as in if they finish with a top 3 pick post lottery. Anything outside of that I bet they give it to us.

My guess is we end up with Reinhart this year and Barzal+Konecky next year.

Edit: Konecky actually

I am 99% positive we will be using their 2014 pick in the up coming draft.

I agree, since right now they'd be picking outside the top 3.

Any idea why he didnt keep 30 in STL? Think Bishop was the last to have that number here.

Who knows right now honeslty. No JT No Vanek

3 points out of the bottom 3 and have played more games than the two teams right behind them in the standings. The only thing that looks certain is the Sabres being in the bottom 3 for sure

Depending on your view on this and next years draft, It may almost seem in our favour to root for the Isles to win this years draft lottery.
