Doesn't seem like his career has been killed. Easy to blame the Coach. He's just a kid.

I think the expectations for Kassian are a bit lower now than they were during the trade.

That may have been Canuck fans overvaluing their players as usual.

San Jose picked him. After Lindros and before Scott Niedermayer

Flyers worst pick is probably Ryan Sittler, which is largely due to injuries. 7th overall in 1992, never made the NHL.

THAT is brutal

EDIT: Sharks first pick EVER

Just looking over the Flyers draft history. This Organization is so due to pick a stud in the 2nd round.

Tom Wilson is another guy in the same vein... both him and Kassian could turn out to be Mike Rupps.

Agreed -- it's amazing how long it's been...hell, now that I'm thinking about it, who was the last Flyers second-rounder to make it, play...400 games?

I know. I hear all about his untapped offensive potential, but have yet to see any of it.

I hate Tom Wilson. Bland name for a bland player

D for the Edmonton Oil Kings

Solid all around defenseman with good offensive skills.

Or as the site future considerations says

"Mayo is a smooth skater with balance and power who can skate the puck up ice or find a streaking teammate with a quick accurate passing play. Has a good sense of when to make a play and when to hold the puck. Willing to play physical and keeps good gaps."

The opposite of that is that sometimes 2nd round picks don't work out. I think the Flyers made a strong move in acquiring MacDonald. And I'm not going to question the trade because players like Duncan Keith, Shea Weber, and PK Subban were drafted in the 2nd round.

I love the spot the Flyers are in. I think they're a key move or two away from being a top team in the League.

- MJL

I 100% agree. Unfortuntely the toughest piece will be acquiring a bonified #1 or #2 Dman that can actually lead on defense. What i miss most about pronger besides his wit is that calming effect he had out there on the ice.. when things got crazy he'd find a way to slow it down and stick to the gameplan. His teammates followed suit.

Yeah, he had a couple of good years at the start of his career, but they got far more out of a kid they picked in the 2nd round, who was Falloon's linemate...Ray Whitney.

Funny thing about the Flyers, a lot of times when they miss in the first round, it's at least somewhat due to injuries. Sittler, Glen Seabrooke, Claude Boivin.

Janne Niinimaa.

EDIT: It's funny, but when Russ Farwell was GM, they did quite well with 2nd rounders: Chris Simon, Mikeal Renberg, Greg Johnson & Niinimaa all played 500+ NHL games

Have to go a long ways back. I don't know if there has ever been a player picked in the 2nd round that would be considered a real good pick. I'd have to check the draft history.

Edit: I was way off the mark with that comment.

Top Flyers picks in the 2nd round in their history.

I would just be super wary of guys who bullied/bulled their way through junior... they rarely pan out.

Looks pretty good. Probably goes unnoticed a bit on that team. They're very strong down the middle with Samuelson and Lazar. Not many teams have two centers who are first round picks.

I watched some of Kings/Jets tonight; LA won their sixth in a row.

I mention that because you're right: Drew Doughty just controlled it all. He was out there basically every other shift, and Winnipeg just couldn't do anything, at home.

It was just...having a guy like that...man. Just hard to get.
