i dont think he'll get moved today either... its an eklund rumour... but i hope we do find a way to move him for some sort of fair value. dont want to underestimate murray here... u never know.
- sen_smile

He'll be gone before next season so draft or summer lots of time to make the right trade for the organization should be lots of suitors with the cap going up to.

He cleared waivers, so it is an AHL transactions as far as I know. Habs may call him up and send Tacarski down.

I was trying to calculate this...

We're about 21 weeks into a 26 week season, so we're looking at

5.5/ 26 weeks = 212k a week.
/2 because we only cover half = ~106k
* 5 weeks left = ~530k.

It cost Katz 530k I guess.

- Morris

Katz won't care because he's actually rich, unlike Melnyk.

I have dogged on Hemsky for the last three years as rumors had him going to Pittsburgh for a first and a good prospect, or a second and a prospect ... the value wasn't there. He is a talented enigma. I think you got very good value in Hemsky for a third and a fifth. I will be interested in seeing how a change of scenery helps and how he looks with a new lease on life. His skill can't be questioned though.

I think the Sens got good value, and I think that this has been an especially economical deadline for buyers, but it should be qualified that Hemsky this year a 5 million is certainly not hemsky 3 years ago at 4.1 million in terms of value. Let me qualify that by saying it would have taken a bit of frenzy for him to ever get that 1st + prospect from some team.

P.S. I like the Goc acquisition.
P.P.S Hemmer would be a good UFA to target at on a value contract for you guys.

This is my fave trade of the deadline.

Ottawa gets a big upside and gives up very little.

Not much risk, big reward.

How ironic that Hemsky, in showing his stuff in front of a team he wanted to join, may have killed his own shot at playing in the playoffs.

So we lost Corey Conarcher for nothing. Gave up a 3rd & a 5th for Hemsky. & signed Philips to 2 year extension. I'm not really sure I like either 3 of these moves

Tim Murray having a pretty rough first deadline:

Miller
Ott
Moulson
McNabb
Parker (nobody)
2nd Round Pick
2nd Round pick

For

Mitchell
Neuvirth
Stewart
Carrier (nobody)
Conditional 1st
Fasching (B level prospect)
Deslauriers (B level prospect)
TBA draft pick

Better hope that TBA is a first, at least.....Those two 2nd rounders will be high picks, too, with the way the sabres roster looks for the next year or two. Or three. Or forseeable future.

I think he's going to find he is a little too stubborn for his own good. He's already caused some front office drama. I am sure he has a busy summer ahead of him.

Can you imagine if we miss the playoffs by 2 points All of the Sens players will be looking at Hemsky "like wtf man, thanks for lighting us up a couple weeks ago".. & Hemsky will be like " man I haven't been to the playoffs in 8 years & I score 2 on my new team 16 hours before I join the team to pretty much wreck our playoff hopes.

Steal is an understatement.

If you guys make it to the playoffs he could well be your best player during the run.

I can't believe we didn't even get a mid second rounder for him. For shame.

You got fair value for Hemsky..and no one was gna give up a 2nd for him based on his decline in production and injury history.

Think of it this way, if he was dealt at the beginning of the season, I think he would've fetched a 4th rounder. His play yesterday essentially gave you guys the extra pick imo
