I think he would be a good fit. Can play a good two way game and score.

It's exactly what I was thinking. Also as cygnus pointed out, he is a puck possession dude. Two minor deals, if possible could change things for the better without breaking the bank ...

Final straw for Luongo was not starting in Heritage Classic Game. Growing trend happening in Vancouver, guys don't want to play for Torts.

Living in NYC even though I'm not a ranger fan it's not hard to understand why... He has a great hockey mind but he tends to draw extreme reactions out of players ... A minority love him and would do anything he asks ... The majority hate his guts ... I think it may have something to do with his people skills lol... Guys got the subtlety of a feeding shark

I could live with something like that. Still don't see Sutter being the answer long term especially with his upcoming contract demands likely in the 4 mil+ range, but that issue is probably better for the offseason.

Would like to see Sill and Megna work their way back into the lineup whenever they are healthy. I really believe that some youth and explosiveness is a huge key to long term playoff success.

he just doesn't understand NHL players today. The game and its players have evolved so much since his college and minor league playing days and he just hasn't changed with the game.

I remember Sean Avery saying that playing for Torts was worst thing for his career but the best thing for his life.

His style sucks and his poor people skills and aggressive attitude don't make up for that. That's why a guy like Therrein will always get fired over a guy like Bylsma if they are in the same situation, one has no people skills and many don't like him, the other has a ton of charm and is very well liked.

I see the Kings are possibly shopping Justin Williams. He is a RW and has one more year on his contract at 3.65 million.

Thoughts on him on a line with Kuni and Sid. Might be a viable option. LA seems to want to get Vanek and wants to clear space.

Would really like to get him. Any idea as to why LA would be possibly offering him?

Not that this is earth shattering but Walshy will love it

@Real_ESPNLeBrun: Pittsburgh and Edmonton have chatted on Ales Hemsky... could be something Pitt re-visits at some point... a possibility.

What about an offer of Despres, 2014 3rd and 2015 2nd for Williams and Dwight King or Kyle Clifford

For a fanbase who thinks that their second line center is worth all the stars in the sky, Canuck fans must be worried after learning their starting goalie was worth a 3rd line center and a prospect goalie...to go along with their own prospect goalie.

not to mention that fact they traded their young and talented goalie for one pick

Schneider
Loungo

for

9th overall
Mathias
Markstrom

you could argue we got a better package for Staal

Seems more and more likely that the Kesler deal won't get done. Big part of that trade was Sutter, but now Vancouver has no need for a 3rd line center now having Matthais.

@FriedgeHNIC: Hearing Thomas Vanek may not be in NYI lineup tonight

@JSportsnet: Thomas Vanek is not dressing tonight in Winnipeg. #hockeycentral

@TheFourthPeriod: Further to @DennisTFP's latest on the Kings, I'm told Vanek isn't really an option for them at this time. Price too high.

Yeah, I thought of that.

Also, for those who say the Flyers don't need him, my response would be Snyder is an old man. He wants a cup yesterday. Kesler is a significant upgrade over any center on that team not named Giroux.

They're still a little weak on D, but I have to be honest, I don't want to see the Flyers in the playoffs. Double that if Kesler moves there.

Jokinen slots in at 3rd line center I'd suppose. Bennett back with Malkin and Neal. Kunitz and Crosby get Vanek.

Not saying Vanek goes to the Penguins. I'll believe it when I see it. Just sharing the tweets mostly. I'd imagine Pouliot would be in any deal for a player like him whether he's willing to re-sign or not.

Ducks moved Penner so they'd have a shot apparently. Rimer saying 2 other teams involved.

im really glad stupid people stay away from here.. well mostly stupid people...

i have #pens search open in a tab and you should read some of this stuff that people post... some think geno is on the block, some think broduer is coming to the pens, they spell keslers name wrong (kessler), people want malone and talbot back....

but great entertainment

I agree. Hell, at this stage, I'd seriously see what I could get for the Sedin bothers. They are 37 and aren't the players they once were.

As much as I think Gillis is a retard, he has balls. Vancouver is only two points out of a play-off spot and that is one of the most rabid fan bases in the league. It's one thing to admit you aren't a Cup contender and trade maybe Kesler. But its another thing to throw the organization in the gutter when you are close to the play-offs.

- Oneonta Penguin

Dude you got bad sources, or the drugs are still in effect. They may be 37 when their deals end.

edit* Plus they have a new coach who is notorious for killing his stars.... off year with injuries as well.... wouldn't just assume they're going downhill

The sad thing ... I think you are serious.

Jordan Staal as a third line center making six million for the next eight years isn't the answer. 21 goals, 37 assists in 109 games for the Canes with better wingers than he had here? You need your head examined.

- Oneonta Penguin

It there any way at all, any way, that you can express your opinion without talking down to others?

We all have opinions on here and its great we get to express them, but there is no need to speak down to people as if you are the be all and end all.

I cant wait for post deadline so all this 'I know better than you' to go and we can just assess what the team has to do with the pieces it does have.

There is nothing I've said that is wrong. Jordan Staal has played a bigger role on the Canes and has failed to live up to his billing. 6 million for a guy that would essentially be a third line center that doesn't produce offensively is a joke. Anyone who thinks this would be a great idea, probably someone like you, lacks serious hockey IQ.
- Oneonta Penguin

Its not what you say, its how you say it. Every post you make to someone who has a different view on things than you, you have to give them a spray, or some kind of 'put down'.

Everything you say is just your opinion, you have no more knowledge than the rest of us, just a different point of view.

This room is fun, keep it that way.

Would obviously have to be interest in Kuhnhackl from Vancouver, but I could certainly see #Pens moving Kuhnhackl at the trade deadline.

hmm never thought about moving kuhn...

I'm shocked if the Kings are actually moving Williams. Swapping out Williams in an effort to land Vanek is totally getting away from what makes them great. Panic move imo and all the better to whatever team reaps the benefits.
