There were alot of people on this board who felt this way, me included. Iggy didn't fit into the grand scheme of things here. He really made no sense after Brendan Morrow was acquired. The offense was the top in the NHL and the power play was too. Iggy doesn't improve that. There was no plan on how to use him. If this was a "hockey deal" for Pittsburgh, a plan would have been in place and he would have been used properly.

Boston was our key competition for the East. The Iggy sweepstakes came down to Boston and Pittsburgh. Coincidence? I say not.

Well not to get into this again, because it is ancient history at this point, but Iginla should be the type of player who can play on any line. He didn't play that way here.

Exactly, to actually think that Iggy was picked up to take away from Boston is stupid. He was picked up to provide the pens with a depth forward who had leadership ability and could score. The end result is seemingly forcing people to make other conclusions but at the time I bet they sang a different tune.

Where the F are the deals?! Come on Shero, we are bored as F here!

PENS acquire Matthias, Goc.

PENS acquire Ehrhoff, Moulson.

Something..

Wonder what the asking price for Gaborik would be--if the rumor of CBJ looking for D help is true then Id be inclined to kick the tires on that one with CBJ retaining some salary. Before somebody says it--yes he is soft, yes he is injury prone, yes he makes too much @ 7.5m. He would still be the closest thing we have seen to Hossa on Crosby's wing since 2008/9.

hemsky > gaborik

Cheaper, skilled and believe it or not less injury prone

Salary yes; acquisition price probably not.

Was just thinking about you when I read this:

Gaborik can flat out fly and would be scary as hell on Crosby's wing when healthy. Just from a viewing non logistical stand point

Pitt doesn't need to get softer with Gaborik. I would add the outcome could be similar to the Miro Satan experiment. Not comparing talent, but in softness....ouch.

That's a lot of acquisitions. Guess we made 4 around last deadline. Probably why it won't happen again

I have to say, I really believe the Pens need to FOCUS on getting Sid a RW. It's no secret that Sid and Kuni's numbers are off since Duper went down. I'm at the point where I don't care if it's a rental. Get him a wing Shero. Cammy, Gabby, Hemsky.....don't care. Just no more Gibbons!

if edm is retaining salary and only looking for a 3rd then why not... bc RS is going to overpay for kesler and that 3rd will be lost... then we will have no picks in the draft...

idk what Shero is doing but, top 6 winger, 3rd line grit and back up goalie

I dont really buy this "softer" argument. How did outhitting the Bruins and adding all that grit work out last year?
Look at Toronto last year. How is it they took Boston to 7 games and should have won that series with a much softer lineup than either Boston or Pitt? They had team speed and controlled possession for long stretches. Id rather see Pitt load up on speed and skill at this point than go chasing gritty 3rd liners.

I was just yelling that on the radio to Mark Madden he was saying how physically we would get destroyed by Boston or something like that. I was thinking man if we would have been all about speed and skill maybe we at least win 1 game. ha Ha

Dupuis and Vokoun are currently on LTIR, nobody else. Letang will only go to LTIR once we need his cap space when a trade is made. If the Pens don't make a trade and require more cap space, he will probably not go on LTIR at all.

Hemsky will end up costing more than a 3rd. Dustin Penner got a 4th. Something around Despres for Gaborik makes sense for both.

Again, he is a more talented Satan, it didn't work then. Gaborik hasn't been living up to much with the Rags either. Im not saying we need a Gary Roberts on Sids wing, but Gaborik isn't worth that kind of investment.

Garbage. We recently traded Paul Thompson for Spencer Michalachek (SP?) who has scored 4-5 goals with some assists and I believe he has some NHL experience. He's got good size and might be worth a look as a bottom 6 forward, but really that is it.
