Ownership gives Ray Shero OK to sweeten deal for Ryan Kesler

Ownership has authorized Shero to sweeten the deal to land Kesler as the Penguins believe his acquisition would improve dramatically their chances to win the Stanley Cup in one of the next three postseasons

Missed out on Robidas. Edler would be scary on that team IMO, but they don't have the assets that they could move for him.

Really Rundblad was worth less than a 2nd round pick and the Flyers have never inquired about him? Even the "what-if" factor is worth the pick. 3 years now I have wondered and watch him become a stud with Chicago, but the Flyers got another 7th defenseman they will resign for way overpayment. Then in 18 months they will figure out a way to take him off the books, but no one will take him. *thumbs up*

Hopefully the Ducks can at least make this a 2 team bidding war.

Yeah, I'd take Rundblad for a 2nd over AMac for a 2 and 3.

No idea, but it could make for an interesting TDL for you tomorrow. Kesler on the Pens isn't a pleasant prospect, but the dent he's going to put in the prospect/pick pool could be significant.

Maybe, but the Ducks made a fair number of moves today...I wonder if they've got anything left in the tank?

It's weird how teams that win the cup always end up making small moves that make impacts later and bubble inconsistent teams always look for the name and pay for it later.

They cleared up a decent amount of cap space and moved out Penner who I believe was playing in their top 6 for a good amount of games. They have a spot open in their top 6 and the cap space to acquire one of Vanek/Kesler/Moulson/Cammy and only one of those guys is under contract as a non-rental. Ducks usually have good asset management, not a team that deals top prospects/picks for rentals.

Let us hope so. I'd still love for another team to swoop in with a better offer that includes a promising young forward(Sutter doesn't do it for me, especially with Matthias added and Santorelli potentially getting re-signed).

Meh, he turns 30 this year. Canucks won't be contenders next year and likely the year beyond. Get the best return possible.

Yup, solid points. I'm surprised we haven't heard more about Vanek considering he was pulled from tonight's game.

With the rejected Isles offer and the general understanding that he may very well head to the Wild as a UFA I think the Isles are really struggling to recoup the value they gave up for him.
