Exactly -- not sure how anybody can spin that second-rounders don't matter when only our freaking future rides on those three guys doing poop at the NHL level

It also hurts their chances at moving up in the draft. Hard to move up very far if you don't have 2nd or 3rd round picks to give.

Its a 2015 pick. Sweat it in 2 years...

I feel like the top dman on every bad team always has worse Corsi numbers than they really are.

Weren't Streit's Corsi numbers terrible before coming to Philly?

Yeah, the raw number will be worse for guys on bad teams, so you've got to:

1) compare it with the other D on the team,
2) check the Corsi-Rel number to see if he's having a net positive effect.


Last two seasons, Islanders were losing the possession battle quite significantly w/ AMac on the ice. Could be that he's a 'turnover machine' or still shaky in his own zone... or could be he was just exposed to ridiculously tough matchups.... or all of the above.

It only makes sense if we can recoup the loses from the picks by trading one of Meszaros or Grossmann

i know its not the same case but lets keep this in mind...

When Bouwmeester was with the Flames, he was asked to play 26+ mins a night and he wasnt very good
he gets traded to STL and starts playing 20 mins a game, is the #3 dman and is all of a sudden a solid dman everyone thought he was, and goes on to make the most stacked d corps in possibly winter olympic history.

MacDonald was the Isles #1/2 guy, 25 mins/game. He played in all positions, on a poopty team
With us, he'll be around 18 min/game, and asked to be a #3/4 guy.

You never know. Give the guy a chance. He played on a (frank)ing awful team.

OMG the sky is falling. This is exactly what they needed to do IMO. Or would you guys rather be giving up Schenn, Read and others for Big Buff? I have been calling for this type of move, and I am stoked. Small moves that make this defense more of a unit, then 6 guys swatting at pucks....

2nd rounder = TDL rental

3rd rounder = Goulbourne

The point being, we don't need another guy who can't handle tough matchups -- we've already got three guys who, on any given night, who have to be hidden!

Damn it. Couldn't just do what we've almost always done at the TDL and just not do anything!

Idk why people are female dogging about this move....Its a decent D-man at a cheap amount dollar wise, 2nd rounder is 2015. Flyers could deal Mez and still be able to add someone decent.

he also plays on the 4th worst team in the NHL with an awful defensive system
He also was playing in every situation against the top guys every single night
with us he'll be 2nd pairing, playing 18 mins or so a night, not 25+

so get outta here.

why not sign him this summer as a UFA and keep the picks?

I don't mind him, he will be an upgrade to some extent, for mobility alone

he does not fix the need for a top pair guy

he is being misused as a first pair guy this yr for the Isles much like the Flyers tried to do with Coburn last year
