Not a fan of Ashton....yet, not saying I won't be in the future.

I think Brodie is a better option.

Someone has to do it. As long as they can play hockey, first. Then I don't care really. But, like the Bruins forth line, they can all play the game too. We require that.

The problem is.... how does that benefit the Leafs in any way?
- markmark

I think the puncher keeps dirt bags like Marchand from being complete Dbags...I don't think Thornton would take a "dirty" run at Kessel...IMO.

I agree with you. Nothing anyone can do at the end of a bench. However, if Thorton were to return to the ice I think it would be naïve to think that the next guy off the Leafs bench wouldn't be Orr/McLaren for the payback. They would seek and destroy the next chance they got.
- iTOLDu

better payback is hammering one of their guys. i see no relevance to going at thornton if he hit kessel..... run over bergeronor kreijci or something. "getting" thornton after he got kessel isnt payback in my books.

Just saying, it is a risk I would take as a coach..but a coach I am not...so it doesn't really matter...also I was not saying that as a coach I would instruct Thornton to take a run at kessel no matter what...just send him out knowing the line would be too tired to mount any real offensive attack, and to tell him to watch for an opportunity.
- vermie22

but that can ONLY happen if the leafs dont have a goon?? is a fallacy.

Nah, Thornton will just wait until he is down on the ice, then cheap shot him.

A deal isn't imminent, but Ottawa is exploring the market on Jason Spezza, who has a NTC. Talent-for-talent, if moved http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/ott140303.html

Bruins 4th line only has Thornton but what the Bruins have is big rough D that are out there all the time. They don't need a 4th line full of bruisers.

Their 4th line consists of what most teams have as 3rd lines...except maybe Thornton. IMO

Can't wait for the Frenzy next year when Bobby Ryan will wait until after the season before deciding if he'll stay in Ottawa.

And then won't.

Zing!

What I find insanely irritating is that Phaneuf got a penalty for giving a guy a shot after the whistle on Thursday... Shouldn't players like Chara be penalized after EVERY (frank)ING WHISTLE IF THIS IS THE CASE?

(This thought came about because I'm imagining Thornton taking Kessel's head off with no call, followed by Clarkson running over Krejci and getting a 10 game suspension.)

as the coah, knowing that Leafs don't have a guy they can "sacrifice" by getting retribution on a guy like Bergeron..I would be me more willing to take the chance.

just saying it increases the odds...does it prevent no...but the opportunity is higher.

like i stated earlier it is insurance..not prevention.

Then the penalty that player takes leads to a Bruins PP which negates any good that might have come out of it.
