Never looked back is an absolutely stupid statement, when he lost his job down the stretch and watched the last 20 games, along with most of the playoffs, from the bench.

That is most definitely looking back.

And the only reason he wasn't looking back after that was they traded his competition away.

- prock

Soo.. he wasn't playing up to what he should be so they sat him and played the goalie on fire. He was still a #1 goalie. That's different than not being a number 1. Bernie is just trying to prove he is now, it's possible he wouldn't even be called the #1 on Toronto if Rieminister of defense didn't get his feelings hurt and choked.

He started less than half. Just because he played a couple of half games in relief to bring it up to half doesn't mean squat.
- prock

and this makes Bernier's career similar to Price's how exactly?

Lets stay on topic.

Bernier and Price have had far different careers. To call them similar is flat out wrong.

Thats the whole point to that particular discussion.

who cares, different teams, different scenarios etc etc etc.

Price is better right now, he's had more experience.

The end.

I think we need an impartial observer to settle this, like Engels.

not one single regular season he wasnt in half the games

not one

not saying price was the second coming of christ when it came to netminding.. just saying that comparing his career to how bernier's has went and calling them similar is just simply untrue.

- Dozzer

That's nice. Still undeniable that he lost the starting job a couple of times. They started him for a couple of seasons until it was clear the backup was better at which point he list his job and others got the majority of starts.

I guess the race for the Calder has turned into a Watch him go..

MacKinnon is skating away with this. currently on an 11 game scoring streak.

Yeah I'm not sure where there's any debate about this. Price was in more of a tandem situation early in his career whereas Bernier was clearly a backup until he came to the Leafs. Price also more of a high profile young player.

I'm just happy at this point their sv% are almost identical

i just dont think those two have had comparable careers to date.

LA chose Quick over Bernier, and Montreal chose Price over Halak.

if anything Bernier has had a more comparable career to Halak and even thats a stretch.

I was never really a part of any comparison between the two. I just saw some ridiculous statements like him taking the starting job and never looking back. Hes been a completely inconsistent goalie most of his career to this point who has gone through several stretches of bad play leading to someone else getting starts.

He's played top notch this year, no doubt. But let's not pretend this isn't something new for him.

Prock.. you can start addressing the actual point anytime now..

Price from day 1 was getting 35-40 starts

Bernier got 15

the most he ever had in LA was 25 GP

their careers have taken completely different paths and Price has a far more accomplished one at this point.

saying otherwise is flat out delusional.

Youre looking at it all wrong.

Toronto kept Reimer and traded Scrivens for Bernier.

Therefore,

Bernier >> Price << Reimer >> Scrivens

Technically, no one did Bruce. I just responded to Hung like a pucks question. You took the next step from there.

true

Price is a star goalie, it's hard to argue. Seems like Montreal always has good goaltending. Bernier's looking like a very good move by Nonis too and if he keeps playing this way could be comparable. It could make for a good battle if they meet in the playoffs.

We need the win tonight, or else things get a lot scarier for the Leafs down the stretch.
