I'll give you an example of why most of our problem is the coach. Strait is what he is- on a decent team, he could be a solid six, up and back, playing his position. On this team, he has to be more than a six.... which is a problem....but it's ten times as much of a problem when I see a straight up and back d-man like him skating around the back of the offensive net like he's Paul f***ing Coffey. Some players simply aren't meant to do that. This coach doesn't get that- and THAT is the REAL problem. - dcb1
Let me ask you this: is this really a coach problem or is it a management problem? I am a big advocate of firing the whole coaching staff, especially Cappy. I don't think he is a good coach. But having said that, he has to play the players he's provided with by Snow. If the best d-men Cappy is given are Straitm Hickey and A-Mac, who else is Cappy supposed to play? Cappy has a shelf full of pieces of sh*t to choose from. He can only dress and play the least stinky pieces of sh*t. No coach can turn sh*t into gold. |

That's the problem. The fact that an argument can be made that Hickrey, a LA Kings cast off, has been (I wont say best) one of our steadier d-men all year tells the sad tale of the state of the team's defense. If you can argue that Hickey is one of our steadiest d-men, then there is a serious talent and depth issue thst must be addressed. No team with Hickey as one of its best d-men will be a cup contender. - Jethro09

Its more of a management problem bcs of capuano being hired in the first place. The guy is inept. I agree that the cast of characters sucks but anyone could get more out of these guys. His systems are flawed in so many ways and yet he continues to beat that dead horse? It all comes down to snow though. From the coach to the players to everyone. It all leads back to snow. |

I don't know how they're going to get a better coach to come here. This team is run like a circus. The absolute only redeeming qualities the isles have to offer are JT, a deep prospect pool and Brooklyn. That's my concern. Fire Cappy and his staff. Great. Now who takes the job? If they can't convince vet players to come here and play for millions of dollars, how are they convincing a veteran coach to come here? I have this nauseating feeling that even if Cappy is fired, another AHL "hot coaching prospect" will be the next hire and the cycle of mediocrity and not getting everything possible out of the roster will continue. |

The only thing is a coach who has been out of work may be more inclined to agree to coach the Isles. Much easier for the top FA's to stay away. I think the Isles have not even tried for a proven coach. |

Both. Snow gave Cappy a horrible D squad and a number one goalie that he should have known couldn't play more than 55 games. Cappy on the other hand refused to adjust his game plan to the players he was given. No coach was going to win the Cup with this team, but better coach would have them above the bottom 5. |

Here's a better question,
Are they playing top mins because Snow is incompetent to bring in better D-talent? |

Actually, in all honestly the whole D stinks..... whether it is some of the players, or type of what-ever system installed.
Strait is ok at best, has heart but might be to slow for the NHL
Hickey has great hockey IQ, but smallish on a team that most are small.
Now if Snow was able to bring in NHL D-talent, would these players even be considered? That's another question then, if your gonna stick to your original comment. |

I think hickey is a good example of isles fans grabbing onto a sub par player due to the rest of the team being terrible. Hickey is too small for a bottom pairing role as far as I'm concerned and not good enough for a top four spot. Doesnt matter whether its due to his size or not hes just not good enough. If we have players on this team like hickey three yrs from now we will be in the same boat. Who knows maybe he will turn into something but as far as the here and now is concerned hes not that great on a terrible defense and that in no way makes him good. |

i think if next years defensive depth chart is something along the lines of:
1 hamonic
2 dehaan
3 top 4 Free agent (or maybe wtvr snow gets back in the vanek deal)
4 lubo
5 reinhardt/pulock (IE prospect)
6 strait
7 hickey
yes id be fine with that.
would it be world class defense, no. but i do think it would come in right around average to above average....with a better goalie and coach/system, i do think it would work. you? |

Hard to see Hickey being more than a 6 or 7 with his lack of size. |
