I'm fine with him playing in Bridge next year. Whichever two goalies play for the Isles next year, they both need to play. No more of this 90/10 split nonsense and expecting the 2nd goalie to play lights out after sitting for weeks.

We must or it will be the same nonsense of playing the #1 goalie into the ground.

What makes anyone think the $6m will be spent any better this time? Or better than the $5m on Rolston to reach the floor, etc.? I'm trying to be a realist here, I'm just saying, we've been in the position of having to spend a good deal just to reach the floor before, and it's been spent rather poorly. If past performance is any indicator of future success, well...

Certainly not I.

I'm not ready to give up on Nilsson yet. Let him play another season in Bridgeport.

Neither am I but I've seen so little of him and what I have seen hasnt been impressive.

Has he had stretches where he looks like he can be a #1 goalie in the NHL or are we just hoping something suddenly clicks with him?

I think Nillson will be resigned for BPT and Poulin will be sent packing. It seems that this is what Staple has been hinting at for a while now.

Nilsson is seen as the better prospect though Sudsy thought Mikko was the guy. Agreed that Poulins ship has likely sailed

Our GM was a goalie, you would think he would have a good eye for drafting goalies.

You would think that right? To not only draft but help develop them correctly.

We all agree. Poulin experiment is over. He got his chance and failed.
His stats were as bad as a injured dp. That says it all.

Koskinen has put up great numbers in NHL. Unfortunately he prob won't come back.
Just like petrov will never come to NHL

U can def count on use picking up that waiver goalie.

He's a kid. He's played 12 whole games. He was very sick for a year. Let him develop.

Frankly I can't blame anyone for being shaky in net with this D in front of them. I'm surprised the goalies aren't having breakdowns in the locker room listening to Cappy tell everyone to activate.

Who was the last goalie the Islanders developed outside of DP (yes, I'm being generous in saying DP developed)? Seriously, I can't remember one.

I really don't want Koskinen back. The KHL is far too low scoring for those numbers to be that impressive and he looked like he had no idea how to play goal when he did get a shot. He was the smallest looking 6'6 goalie in net I've ever seen, so much open net to shoot at and I was trying to figure out if he was 100lbs and wearing spandex equipment or if he couldn't play an angle.

All fair points. Would have taken a special goalie with this team this year.

Wondering what would be a reasonable return for Vanek & Amac?????

Or what would this fanbase be happy with????

It's not going to be anything that makes Isles fans happy. I'm looking forward to seeing 3/4 of the people who crap all over AMac go crazy when the return for him isn't enough.

expect a late 2nd or early 3rd for amac, for vanek I expect a prospect, and a very late 1st this year, and maybe a 3rd or 4th round pick.

I don't expect this is going to be great value.

Part of me expects that we're not going to move either and finish out the year with them and both will walk for nothing or a pitiful pick for their rights prior to july 1st.

The Vanek quote isn't quite so damning when put in context:

"I think this League is so close," Vanek said. "You look at some of the losses that we have had, you're so close from being good. I'm sure there are a few things that Garth would like to tweak, I'm guessing. I can't sit here and say the last three months have been real bad. I think we had put together a real good stretch. You look back at seven, eight, nine losses, that's a lot of losses. Usually if you're a playoff team, you look back at two, three or if you're just outside, you look back at two, or three wins you could have had.

"But in my three months here, I look back at probably 10 games that we could have had. That's 20 points and you're right in the middle of the pack."

So now Vanek will likely play for a third team this season, although this time it figures to be for one headed toward the playoffs. Whatever happens, he's determined to see the offers that come his way this summer.

"It just came to a point where I felt, 'OK, I want to test the free agent market, most likely,'" Vanek said. "But that doesn't mean the Islanders wouldn't be one of my teams at that time."

Would he have already signed with the Islanders had things gone differently this season?

"I don't know," Vanek said. "It's tough to predict this and that, but I'm sure if we would have

- UIF[been] in the top echelon, that maybe makes a difference. For me to stand here and [say] that would make a big difference, I don't know. I can tell you winning does make a big difference."

Not nearly as damming.

Last statement by Vanek should give us his inside take of this team moving forward...

I'd think anyone would be foolish to give up on either of them. I'd love to have two veteran goaltenders but if we got a legit starter I'd take one as a backup if they improved. We need at least one real nhl goaltender.

I won't be one of them. If he goes I'm happy.
