This guy was available but we didn't even make an offer

Tim Thomas FLA 39 107 2.87 1168 .908 0 0 16 19 3 2239 57:25 4 0 1

- jmo16

His numbers are barely better than Nabbys and he's older and was coming back after a year off. That would have been an unacceptable risk and nothing to build on.

Last statement by Vanek should give us his inside take of this team moving forward...

I rather have Nabby and Thomas than Poulin on Nillson. It may have kept us in the hunt...

still waiting for some of you to admit the Moulson for Vanek trade was a bad idea on every level. Punt these 2 guys already.

The most shocking part of the Nabby signing was that he got 3.25 million for one year. I still can't wrap my head around that number. .. we will have 6 mill off our cap number just from Him, Regin and PMB being gone.

I think it's the opposite. If anything, it gives teams looking at vanek the thought that if they're a top team, he may sign with them. That's a more attractive trade option than a guy they know won't even entertain the idea.

What makes anyone think the $6m will be spent any better this time? Or better than the $5m on Rolston to reach the floor, etc.? I'm not trying to be defeatist here, I'm just saying, we've been in the position of having to spend a good deal just to reach the floor before, and it's been spent rather poorly. If past performance is any indicator of future success, well...

No. Not at all. Just pointing out he WAS available for LESS than Nabby. So, why bring up a prospect who hasn't really proven anything or been dominant in the AHL when you could have had 2 veteran goalies. With Thomas signed, Nabby's price would have been less. Instead, Garth took fliers on PMB($2Mil) & Regin. Not to forget Garth said Strait is a TOP 2 Dman! And pls explain Carkner & Boulton? Really, WTF do they bring to the table?

Jarg was also available...and seeing as he has scored more goals vs. Isles than ANY OTHER TEAM in his career, wouldn't it have been a strategic move as well as an inexpensive one to help our offense? JT KO & JJ would have been as effective or better than MM or Vanek riding that line. I have to go....I just puked in my mouth.

The mistakes and no-moves and passed-on opportunities are endless. This season was over before it started because of the mindset and rationale of our GM. He's shown for 5 years now that he cannot pull the trigger when needed and the teams' record speaks for itself.

KO I thought would be good this year and I had no feelings toward De Haan. Didn't think he would play this year.

I have serious doubts about that. Thomas' numbers are nearly identical to Nabby's and would have done nothing for us going into next year. We have two rfa goalies that needed to be evaluated but that wasnt supposed to be under the durress of a heavier schedule and defensively inept team. Had one of those two kids stepped upn this teams immediate future would have been far better.

Water under the bridge. Whether it's his own fault or that of an organization who had failed to fldevelop a goaltender in over 18 years, Poulin is damaged goods and Nilsson appears fragile. Its time to make a big acquisition in net.

Would he have wanted to come here though? I mean, he took a job in Florida which may have been aquality of life decision. Tough call.

Hard to think of Thomas making a huge difference with the Isles D and system. Poulin did not step up, but it does not excuse the way he was brought along. Nilsson seems very fragile especially after yesterday's game. Isles need to go in a whole new direction in net and in coaching.

I'm fine with him playing in Bridge next year. Whichever two goalies play for the Isles next year, they both need to play. No more of this 90/10 split nonsense and expecting the 2nd goalie to play lights out after sitting for weeks.
