No it appears to be common knowledge

Common knowledge that other GMs have no respect for Garth Snow.... no that is something that is assumed.

Mostly the player's value and the fact that it appears Vanek wants to minimize his return. Honestly what kind of return would you expect from Bailey?
- JimmyP

Not much. At best a second from a team that may see the talent he has but I think that'd be a REAL good trade for Snow. Probably a third or even later? Vanek even as a rental is worth a first and a decent prospect. Everyone has to remember if that's this yrs draft it's a late pick in a crappy draft yr. Just a first is NOT a good trade and is BELOW his value for a team looking for scoring. Take the Kings for example...

That comment speaks volumes to me. Vanek clearly does not believe in the direction of this team and if that comment spreads throughout the league itmakes this fiasco worse than the Ryan Smyth dibacle by miles. It's bad enough his agent devalued his client's trade return, now he's further handicapping the teams free agency hunt. AMAZING.

Keep talking Vanek....let's focus the light on the problems publicly. Garth & Co. are fierce to control/limit all info about this team and probably spend WAYYYYY too much time on spin-control to hide their deficiencies. Anyone who speaks out (Botta, Jaffe, Brendan Witt, Nino are excommunicated. I'd love to hear some more former players/broadcasters tell the truth about what's REALLY going on.

There were comments saying positive things some saying negative things but like my mom always told me actions speak louder than words. Sorry, I just don't see it?

I liked Jaffe, I'm pissed they let him go. I thought he was fair to the team. I don't remember a single time he called them out that they didn't deserve it.

All the talking in the world won't help. It could be on the back page of the paper everyday and it won't matter. Things will change when Wang wants them to change, not a second before.

You could believe that its not the case, but I will believe that it is the case.
Difference of opinion of course...

Right. There's just not a lot of value to the players the Isles are shopping outside of Vanek. Maybe Nielsen or Vis could get a decent return, but I doubt it. I can't imagine anyone wants Nabby.

Anders Nilsson 8 26 3.68 213 .878 0 0 1 3 2 423 52:59 0 0 0

this is a disgusting mess. No more prospects. NHL caliber goaltender with experience and gas left in the tank. Nothing else will be good enough.

just look, in the 36 games Poulin and Nilsson played, that's more than half our games at a sub 900 save %. Who wins with those numbers? Nabby's well below the league average in save % and he's our best.

What a pathetic mess. Add our defense to this and a coach who has no idea what he's doing....frankly this is disturbing.

My post was referring to Vanek. I can care less what we get for AMAC. I don't expect much and will just be happy he is gone. On the other hand Vanek has real value and we should see a good return. If we don't it's not bcs of his value as a player or the demand bcs he fills a need for some teams.

I wouldn't either but that has less to do with the value of the player.

Islanders GM Garth Snow has announced Roy Hobbs has been suspended indefinitely for leaving a team meeting.

"We bench our call-ups for not attending enough of these, so for Hobbs to leave one is inexcusable."

The Vanek quote isn't quite so damning when put in context:

"I think this League is so close," Vanek said. "You look at some of the losses that we have had, you're so close from being good. I'm sure there are a few things that Garth would like to tweak, I'm guessing. I can't sit here and say the last three months have been real bad. I think we had put together a real good stretch. You look back at seven, eight, nine losses, that's a lot of losses. Usually if you're a playoff team, you look back at two, three or if you're just outside, you look back at two, or three wins you could have had.

"But in my three months here, I look back at probably 10 games that we could have had. That's 20 points and you're right in the middle of the pack."

So now Vanek will likely play for a third team this season, although this time it figures to be for one headed toward the playoffs. Whatever happens, he's determined to see the offers that come his way this summer.

"It just came to a point where I felt, 'OK, I want to test the free agent market, most likely,'" Vanek said. "But that doesn't mean the Islanders wouldn't be one of my teams at that time."

Would he have already signed with the Islanders had things gone differently this season?

"I don't know," Vanek said. "It's tough to predict this and that, but I'm sure if we would have [been] in the top echelon, that maybe makes a difference. For me to stand here and [say] that would make a big difference, I don't know. I can tell you winning does make a big difference."
