Even better, why not try to lure Thomas here in off-season instead of bringing back Nabby....

Works for me. He seems set in Florida though. Won his Cup and seems ok with a rebuilding team and the great weather.

i dont think any of us here are suprised by outcome of game sunday. Isles are one of the best 40mins teams in hockey. Maybe in next GM meeting, Snow can propose shortening the game down to 40mins.

what i do get annoyed about is, WHY does it feel like every NHL Hall or Famer or Rookie hits a milestone while playing the isles.
Jagr scores 700G against Isles. Of Course he would.

just like every rookie scores their first NHL goal against us.

Bottomline, Isles need an Impact Coach. Laviolette at top of list.

look no further than success of Winnipeg Jets.

Coaches matter.

How pathetic that Capuano calls a time out with 30secs left down 2 goals?
How about calling timing when you are winning 3-1 and the puck hasnt left your zone for 4 mins.

i think we agree on everything but the 2 top 4 guys...while it would be fantastic, i dont recall the last time 1 team signed 2 legit top 4 guys (ie a bit unrealistic expectations) and 2 i dont think its necessary...the defensive depth is deep, its safe to assume ONE of them will be good. its a bit of a juggling act, if too many guys are signed and there are prospects ready to play there is going to be a log jam and players value will not be realized.
- LetsGoIsles

The prospect pool is deep. The teams defensive depth is not deep. That's why a-Mac Strait and Hickey are getting big minutes in big spots.

According to the main board, a Moulson deal may be real close.

i believe we can count on one of the defensemen to contribute next year for the islanders coming from the deep defensive prospect pool

Contribute where? As a bottom pair guy? I agree. As a top four, I don't agree. Having a prospect fill in a bottom pair spot forces guys like hickey, Donovan or Strait into the top four, where they are my suited to be. That's the fundamental issue. The isles don't have the requisite talent to fill out the top four in house next season. We could stay the course, but that will make it take 3 years or so to develop a d-man to play and be ready for top four minutes.

YES!!

back to the original comment:

i think if next years defensive depth chart is something along the lines of:

1 hamonic
2 dehaan
3 top 4 Free agent (or maybe wtvr snow gets back in the vanek deal)
4 lubo
5 reinhardt/pulock (IE prospect)
6 strait
7 hickey

yes id be fine with that.

Reinhart will join. I haven't seen enough of Mayfield this season but it sounds like he isn't too far off.
I say give this team a top line player to replace Vanek, a top four dman added and a legit number one goalie and this team and they are capable of winning a lot of games. Unfortunately those are big pieces needed. The elephant in the room, as we all know, is Cappy.

Offers so far for Andrew MacDonald reflect how most GMs see him: on a top-10 team, he's a good 3rd pair dman.

Or maybe you should say "Hope they take three years to develop OR hope they pan out at all". Not a good plan when you just spent the last seven years "rebuilding".

Not to the Islanders. All kidding aside Vanek at this point should just keep his facking mouth shut. I don't disagree with him but he's no Crosby and he's not even close to top ten in this league. Does he think Minnesota is some powerhouse? I liked the guy here, thought he did a good job but shut your mouth on the way out. Have a little class even if you're right some things are better off not said. It's bad enough his agent went public with his rejection of the contract. Shut your mouth Vanek.

Would be shocked if Reinhart is not on the team. The Isles want any hope to land a top FA, they need a proven coach. They need to change the perception it is not the same Islanders.
