Boston might be demanding that the Flyers take somebody off the roster to help save cap room or to clear a contract slot...not sure if Boston is at 50 used or not. - Jsaquella
eff that puck moving d men are at an all time high value wise, if he gets dealt it better be from a position of strength. |

And right now, Berube has no interest in reuniting Schenn with Kimmo. I like the idea of Gilbert pairing with Streit, a right handed d-man with decent mobility, which will help offset Streit's lack of foot speed. Plus, Gilbert is okay and getting the puck out of the zone with a decent outlet pass. - ravishingone
Gilbert has done really well with Campbell this year. I think he'd be good with Streit, as well.
i just worry about cost. I could see a lot of teams interested in Gilbert. I'd prefer him over guys like Hainsey, MacDonald and the others that usually get mentioned. |

I cant believe the cost on Gilbert would be too high seeing his UFA status |

Meszaros isn't really a puck moving defenseman. He scores points and goal, but he's not really driving transition. If he was, I'd be all for keeping him. |

The Isles are reportedly demanding a 1st rounder for MacDonald, also a UFA. |

They flat out dominated the first ten minutes or so, shots were 10-1 at one point |

Pretty apparent the fan base thinks more highly of Gus then the organization. I would start there and see what Tallon says. Still plenty of young d-men in the pipeline, that Gus can be replaced.

Yeah I missed the first 12 minutes of the game. The disparity in shots caught me off guard. I thought it was evenly played from what I saw |

What I dont understand is why everyone says that other teams are demanding 1st for there pending UFA's but we would only get mid round picks for mez...Am I missing something? |

Yeah, maybe they can flip Gus for Gilbert. That's intriguing, to say the least.
i don;t think Gustafsson is a cure all, but he should be playing because he brings speed/mobility and puck moving skills that they lack badly. |

Wow ....what away to build a defence.....Streit, Gervais and now Macdonald ???? Does Dave Brown have season tickets for the Islanders ?......seriously the Islanders were the worst team in the east with these 3 guys on their D? What's the bloody attraction ? |

MacDonald is top 5 in the NHL in minutes played. He's been the Isles most heavily relied upon defenseman this season. Gilbert has been very good all season for Florida. As has Hainsey for Carolina.
Meszaros has been poor in his own end, has a questionable injury history, a bigger cap hit/salary than those three, doesn't have a ton of speed and for an offensive defenseman he's not that good in transition-he gets most of his points from the team being set up in the zone.
He's also a guy that the Flyers have been trying to trade for most of the season. Sure he's more valuable now that a lot of his salary is paid off, but the others are more attractive, IMO. |

His inability to stay healthy. The fact that everytime he touches the puck in his own end you can feel the collective fanbase cringe because we assume something terrible is about to happen... That's all I got

The Flyers always seem to value size over mobility in the backend. I agree Gus should be playing, but since he isn't and guys in the pipeline are developing, it just maybe time to use him as a tradeable asset and see what they can get.
I think we can agree, Gus is not suited to be a 7th d-man, and at this point it is almost counter productive to send him back down (I'm not even sure he is waiver exempt).

Brown's watching the Bruins-Rangers tonight. As to why the Flyers would be interested in MacDonald, I don't know. He'd be an upgrade in some respects, but if they really want that high a price for him, I would look elsewhere or stand pat. |

Gus would have to clear waivers, so the AHL isn't a realistic option. The kid needs to play, but Berube seems to be more willing to bench Gustafsson for his mistakes more than other defensemen.
I mean, I look at Schenn's play today, and Grossmann on that second goal and I wonder why the Hell they stay in over Gustafsson...sure he might not be great in his own end, but Schenn and Grossmann hardly looked like Rod Langway and Scott Stevens today. |

It's way too quiet in the flyers camp. Went from hearing small rumors about Kessler, edler, buff etc, to nothing. Could mean they are working on something big, or could mean that the are doing nothing. Guess we"ll see soon. |

In the end it's all about size. Also, Gus has decent offensive tools, but nothing really jumps out as above average. That's why I really can't wait for Ghost to turn pro and see how his game translates at the professional level. I hope he gets a cup of coffee in the AHL this year. |
