Holmstrom can provide solid play. He's not flashy or going to score much, but he's capable in a 4th line role and isn't going to hurt you. He's also not likely to take a slew of penalties.
- Jsaquella

Exactly what we need -- the fourth line just can't be allowed to hurt you at even strength

Same can't be said for you last night

I kid I kid. The Hawks beat us by 5 goals I think

- PhillySportsGuy

i dont know why, but they looked ridiculously disinterested. not that its an excuse, you should be always ready to give it a go. but last night didnt bring up any issues for me with the team (besides the ample ones i already have, but still)

Interesting on the broadcast, they mentioned Berube believes Raffl will be a goal scorer in a top 6 role. I just wonder if they have dropped him on the 4th line to let him stress his defensive responsibilities. I just can't see him staying on the 4th line in the playoffs.

I too am starting to get fed up with downie. The game just seems to be to fast for him right now. It seems when the puck gets in his feet that he has no clue where it is are what to do with it.

Other then Mez's muscle moment in todays game I think he has done a good job lately. The issue I have with him is that he has no clue how to rotate with the other d man in his own zone. This is esp concerning when he plays with Luke who's style is to chase guys out of the corner. Its likr mez sticks to his side of the net and will not play help defence

- AGL_91

I think Downie is a very frustrated player right now. Maybe he's not healthy, and that's bothering him, and he has a burr under his saddle. When he first came here he was a smart player who made a lot of little key plays. That player seems to have disappeared.

Not sure about Holmstrom. They seem to like others more like Vandevelde. . If thats the case, I would rather acquire a 4th liner.
- PhillySportsGuy

I'm taking a look at the rentals available. Malhotra may be the best 4th liner, IF he is available.

Dare I say Scott Gomez at 900k might be worth taking a look at?

Yea. Take those outdoor games with a grain of salt. Toews was really good though.

He's there right now because things are clicking. The San Jose game is a throw-away, but counting before the Olympics, they've won 6 out of 7 against some very good teams and the lines have been performing well altogether.

Berube is very much a "If it ain't broke" type of coach.

So that was the 11th come-from-behind win when trailing after 2 periods this season.
Flyers went 50% on the PP.
Streit led all skaters in ice time.
B. Schenn was 87% @ the dot.
VL scored his 900th NHL point.

- Pixote Andolini

I think Schenn went 8 for 10 yesterday, as well

Outside of the future cap implications, the deal Rob Rossi mentioned last night sounds good for the Pens. Kesler can play on Crosby's wing now, and then they have the big three down the middle again next season.

I don't see him as a fit on either team really.
He's a top 2 center and I can't understand why he would go to Pitt unless he wants to play on Crosby's wing?

I mean he's a great player who would make a team better, but you guys need a top line wing, maybe another D if Letang is not back and bottom six guys.

Flyers need top D pairing guys and can't afford the assets to get Kes.

Im not expecting those numbers to translate, but he will be a decent offensive player. I see him as a 50 point player who kills penalties and plays good two-way hockey.

Good summary!
How did the team do as a whole on facveoffs? Seems like they won just about every draw.

Coaches need to keep working with him

A guy like Lappy could really help Downie I would think

That's how I see it, but for whatever reason, people look like they can't wait to give away a ton of assets for a 29-year-old player who has had two hip surgeries and reconstructive shoulder surgery

He was definitely really good for him for the initial stretch of games after he came back from the concussion. Played a big role on the line that carried the team for a period of time. Those points in the standings matter as much as the ones today do. It's too bad he couldn't keep things going, for whatever reasons they are.
