They can play some of the ugliest hockey I've ever seen, but Mason does battle and gives them some strong saves -- I still don't worry about him in net, at all -- and as ugly as it can be, they do get it done.
I just want them to make the playoffs so bad -- I wanted them to burn assets to make a significant upgrade, but now, I'm kinda like, "Screw it. Fix what you can around the edges, (hopefully) make it, and (frank) somebody up when you get there with whoever's on the roster." - AllInForFlyers
If Mason starts allowing bad goals in a loss, then I worry. Even his bad games, he's not giving up a lot of bad goals, it's more attrition and facing tough chance after tough chance...
I want them to get in and get experience. They can steal a round. It will be good for the kids and a nice reward for the vets. But keep the eye on the future |

Canes are 7th of 8 in the division and 4 points back from the 6th spot. 7 points from the 4th spot. It's tight but they're awfully close to being sellers at this point. - hereticpride
Is it worth getting a late round pick for him or keeping him? |

I think they can do better than Downie in FA. They have enough undisciplined guys. I'd rather find a very good 4 line player and allow Raffl to move up or give Laughton a shot at Wing on the third line. - PhillySportsGuy
I was fine with the Talbot for Downie trade, and I'd be shopping him now. There'd be very little chance I'd be bringing him back next season, so might as well get something back. |

That's why that extra point today was absolutely huge -- Carolina's in HUGE trouble now, because their ROWs are low, and they have to realize that catching the Rags and Flyers both, in addition to leapfrogging all the teams in front of them...it's going to be REALLY hard.

He didn't have to outmuscle Grossmann...that implies Grossmann did something on the play besides cast a shadow on the ice.
A guy who is supposed to be a good, top 4 defensive defenseman can't do stuff like that. It's stuff like that that really bugs me about Grossmann. - Jsaquella
Grossmann has to be better in that situation, and not lose positioning there. However that pairing had a very strong possession game today. The Flyers deployed their defense drastically different in today's game. I don't know if that had to do with matchups or what, but it was changed.

I agree, but I think they need to get a 4th line player if they plan on moving Raffl up to the 3rd line. |

maybe so, but the comparison I have seen most IS John Madden. If we get John Madden out of Laughton I would be greatly pleased. - MBFlyerfan
You're looking at draft day analysis. His stock and numbers jumped after he was drafted. |

We'll see how it goes long term, but he's playing very well right now. Any criticism of that being a bad signing or a bad contract, was a rush to judgement. |

If they're going to miss the playoffs a pick is better than nothing. Hard to say. I wouldn't take great issue with offering a 4th or later for him. |

Yeah, I'd look to bring up Holmstrom or even trade for a guy with a bit more discipline than Downie, who might have time left of his deal. |

So that was the 11th come-from-behind win when trailing after 2 periods this season.
Flyers went 50% on the PP.
Streit led all skaters in ice time.
B. Schenn was 87% @ the dot.
VL scored his 900th NHL point. |

Yeah, somebody who can really skate, thinks the game well defensively.
Be nice to not worry about the fourth line losing coverage ever other time they're out there

Neither would I. I just think the Canes would feel its better to just hang on to him than get a 4th round pick.
Similar to the way the Flyers feel about Downie or Mez. They are open to a trade, but theres no sense in trading them for late round picks. |

Agreed -- That's the only way to approach that -- yes, he's an older player, and yes, he could have significant drop-off, but he hasn't shown that THIS year |

Not sure about Holmstrom. They seem to like others more like Vandevelde. . If thats the case, I would rather acquire a 4th liner. |

I too am starting to get fed up with downie. The game just seems to be to fast for him right now. It seems when the puck gets in his feet that he has no clue where it is are what to do with it.
Other then Mez's muscle moment in todays game I think he has done a good job lately. The issue I have with him is that he has no clue how to rotate with the other d man in his own zone. This is esp concerning when he plays with Luke who's style is to chase guys out of the corner. Its likr mez sticks to his side of the net and will not play help defence |

Holmstrom can provide solid play. He's not flashy or going to score much, but he's capable in a 4th line role and isn't going to hurt you. He's also not likely to take a slew of penalties. |

If Boston beats the Rangers tonight, the Flyers are in 2nd place in the division. |
