It's ridiculous. When Giroux gets fired up and takes over the game, they feed off that and everyone gets fired up.

They didn't deserve a point and got two. At this point you just throw up your hands and enjoy it.

- Jsaquella

Yup. Orlov's awful penalty lit the fuse. Flyers were all over the Caps after that call.

It's clear that no matter who is in the 2v3 seed playoff series, it will be a solid match-up. Flyers, Rags, Caps are all pretty equal. Not sure if C-Bus or Jersey can hang with those 3 teams for a full 7 games. Should be fun.

I try not to over-analyze anyway. It takes away from the ride.

That said, they could use a little self-motivation and not rely on 28.

Certainly showed lots of intestinal fortitude after the debacle vs. SJ. Beating the Rags and Caps this weekend is damn impressive.

How do these two games impact what Holmgren does?

- PLindbergh31

Still think they try to do something, maybe not huge, but something, for the 3/4 lines.

I think if they can move Meszaros for a fair trade, they might -- that's just good asset management. But I can see why they wouldn't

Every time the Flyers play a bad period or don't play well, a frequent refrain is that they are dirt slow. I'd like to know what happened in the 2nd half of the game? Did they take some magic elixir to no longer be dirt slow as a team? Did they replace the players in between periods? They didn't look dirt slow in the 3rd period when they outplayed the Caps. Now with that said, great game by the Captain, who basically willed the team to a victory. I'll take the 2 points and move on. But the Flyers played a stupid game, and were fortunate to win. Because the Caps added some of their own stupidity to the mix. Imagine if the Flyers could play consistently as they did in the 3rd, and somehow stopped taking dumb penalties? I think they'd be a pretty good team.
- MJL

Oh yes this. Indubitably.

Hear that in the distance? It's me, beating this drum. In fact, they are a good team already. If they can cut down the stupid, and just play consistently, they're a threat.

If it was me I sit tight.
Unless something to good to be true comes along.

Don't buy at inflated prices. Don't trade any prospects or picks for rentals.

Can't even think of selling core guys like Kimmo.

Keep Mez unless a real offer is made.

Downie? Don't think there is much of a market to get any value back.

Downie is probably gone after this game. Get Raffl that third line spot and get McGinn up on the 4th line.

I think a Malhotra rental as some suggested earlier might be worth taking a look at.

When people say they are dirt slow, they are just being lazy like this team is when they dont skate.

I guess we might be getting a healthy VLC as well?

- MBFlyerfan

I think Lecavalier has played well and looked much better in the two games. Seems a lot stronger and more involved. He's potted two big goals in back to back games. To be honest, the goal in the Rangers game he was fortunate on that a Ranger knocked the puck in the net. And really the OT winner today is a save that Holtby should've made. But I'll take it. And we'll see how he looks long term. It's a start.

And just to point out on another frequent scapegoat and bad signing by the GM, Mark Streit is playing some very strong Hockey for the Flyers.

Awesome win. I hope that was the last games for Mez and Downie in Philly. They are both liabilities on the ice.

if we can't trade downie for any value i'd give him a 1-2 year deal to prove he can still contribute in the NHL
i'd hate to just let him walk so fast

Third in four, I didn't have it in me to be critical today. We already know they're flawed.

I was just hoping for one point today. Got two! HELL YEAH

- AllInForFlyers

I'll still be critical, but it's working. Sure they are flawed, but so is pretty much every other team in the East.

I criticize Berube, but he's 32-21-6 as the coach of this team. With Grossmann playing top 4 minutes, and a 357 year old Kimmo Timonen as their best defenseman. The guy is getting it done.

I don't think they can get much for them.

Id rather see Raffl on the third line, but I fear it will make our 4th line terrible.

I don't think they're fast, but I don't think its a major problem if they keep their legs moving and make quick decisions. When I say they're slow, I mean they're making slow decisions.
- PhillySportsGuy

The Flyers certainly stop moving their feet and play slow at times. I don't know why that is so frequent. But overall, they are not a dirt slow team.

Yes. Even his stick is made of glass.

Seriously though, I thought he was ok tonight!

G is now one point away from being a point per game player. That is good on him!

Raffl adds a speed element, which I think could really be beneficial on Coots line. I would assume they would fill in with someone on the 4th line who could do some PK work rather then looking for an offensive spark in McGinn. Either way, Downie needs to be dropped out of the top 9.

Disagree about Mez.

I'm up in the air about Downie after today.

I like Steve Downie more than most and I do think he has been harmed by those head shots, but I also acknowledge that the team is bigger than one person.

I don't think all the criticism is fair, but some of it is. And if he needs to go, then let's do that and get better, if we can

They could. But the last two games were good gut checks. Outlasted the Rangers, after losing an early lead and then a comeback today after a horrible first period and pretty rough second.

I'm here yelling at the TV and dancing with the kids, despite having concerns over the flaws.

I'd look to move Downie for whatever you can get. Look to add a decent 4th line player. And I'd elevate Raffl to the 3rd line.

I'm ok if they trade Meszaros or Downie. Not sure either has much value. If Meszaros is traded it makes Gus a regular. And Downie can be replaced by anyone.

Yes, but a 4th line of Downie-Hall-RInaldo is really terrible and very undisciplined. Id rather see them move Downie for a defensive specialist with speed and PK ability. Basically, I'd like to find a player similar to Talbot, but faster.

Mason gives them a chance every game. If the defense as a whole can clean up the point blank chances, they can compete very well. Johannsen outmuscling Grossmann is unacceptable in front of the net.
