K, so not surprised he's traded for picks....anyone else surprised by the Quality of the picks? I sorta figured the return would be a little better, like maybe a 2nd. - Ogilthorpe2
The 3rd round pick is almost like a 2nd round pick it will be so high. If Pirri went to almost any another team it would have had to be a 2nd round pick. It's a fair deal.
If you look at this as a continuation of the Versteeg deal I'm still more than happy with Stan's work.
In: Versteeg (Verbeauty), 3rd and 5th
Out: Olsen, Hayes and Pirri
Looks like a win/win for both sides. |

Early 3rd and a 5th for a guy who was never going to be up with the big boys. Ben Scrivens cost EDM less.
Well played. |

That's no win for Florida. Olsen might be a 6th D |

With 9 picks this draft I wouldn't mind seeing Stan trade to move up. I think that's where there is some hidden value in this deal. If not then Stan keeping re-stocking the prospect pool. |

Bob McKenzie said a few weeks ago that there was a decent chance Pirri would be dealt so this really wasn't surprising. Nice job SB for getting two picks for a guy that wouldn't see the ice in Chicago as long as Q is the head coach.

I guess. Looking at the return, I think I'd rather they'd just kept him in RFD for now. |

I think Olsen and Pirri have a shot to make an impact on a team like Florida. A big part of the win is that these guys will be cheap too. |

What do you think Stan should have realistically received in return for Pirri?
It will suck to lose Pirri in Rockford, I really want to see them make the playoffs. |

I don't know, a mid 2nd, or a pair of 3rd's, or packaged in a bigger deal around draft time...something like our first +Pirri to move up to a higher 1st pick.
A 3rd and a 5th seems pointless. |

Pirri's the 5th best center in the organization, just like here, he's not helping anyone. |

Considering Stan got a 3rd and 4th for Frolik a 3rd and 5th isn't so bad. Especially considering the 3rd round pick in the Pirri deal will be a better pick.
I have faith in Stan, if there was more out there he would have got it. The truth is that Pirri is a fringe NHL, why Wouk another GM pay a lot for that. I'm disappointed Pirri wasn't the 2C solution, but it's clear he wasn't going to make an impact and sooner or later he would be gone.
Now the attention shifts to Morin. I could see him on the 3rd line of several NHL teams next season. Will it be ours? |

So much for Stan being done making deals.... - Ogilthorpe2
I'm impressed that Stan got two picks for the lad. I had him handicapped being worth a single 4th. |

Pirri himself was a 59th overall pick. The third round pick could be 61st to 65th, plus Stan gets a 5th. Not to mention the club got over 200 AHL games and 35 NHL games out of Pirri. Overall it's a fair trade, in Stan's system he loves to acquire picks to keep the prospect pipeline fill of as much talent as possible. |

For a guy who couldn't stick with the hawks this past year and was a 2nd round pick himself...I would say that's as good as it gets. |

I agree. I expected pirri to be packaged with something. I think he would be an ok add-on. Better than the value for him alone |

Indeed a fair trade for all. Stan is back up to 9 picks in this coming draft. |

He also has 8 picks in each of the 2 drafts after that. I know there are no guarantees with draft picks, but the more you have the better the odds that at least one makes it. Look at our team as an example, we have plenty of mid-round picks on the roster. |

Would have liked the fifth more if it were this year: two years away, low pick - not worth much.
The third this year is ok - likely to be 63/64/65. |
