TT is already signed - he's one of the 50. Didn't need to trade Pirri to sign anyone - they traded him because they think he sucks. And the beat writers were pretty specific that this gives TT an opening at 2C. Quit being argumentative, Burish. - mohel
Actually forgot the Finnish Waif was under contract. |

Another angle to the trade: Pirri was not going to play unless everyone else was injured, and that cast would be Regin, Handzus and maybe even Nordstrom. So since Pirri was not going to likely find ice time in the playoffs, why not clear his space at Rockford so that someone else can take on a more meaningful role on the Icehogs? You know the players who can play center at the Rock. Now add an open forward spot for Hayes. Bowman wants to see how Hayes looks but that would be jeopardized when you have too many forwards deserving a lot of TOI. Now more TOI available in the Icehogs lineup even for late season and AHL playoffs for TT?
If a late add to the NHL roster can't Bowman put someone on inj reserve with an exaggerated hurt. E.g Brookbank. In this scenario the inj player can still return for playoffs - jhawk59
I guess, but I think they traded him because they think he ain't no good. |

Another bad lose for the Rangers...after they shutdown the Hawks.

All of these angles lead to the main issue - questions about his ability to stick with the team going into next season, and if he couldn't make the team, Bowman would risk losing him for nothing on a waiver claim.
If you're looking for an angle, or a different way to read it, maybe the organization feels that Teravainen is ready enough to step in now, or at the start of next season. Look at tonight's tweets about him after the Pirri trade went down.
I think Bowman is crazy enough to throw Teravainen in there now... |

Combination I would guess...it was time for Pirri to move on.
Works out for both party's...Hawks free up a spot and Pirri gets icetime in the NHL (presumably). |

Hawks have eight picks in this years draft. Good news is that it gives them more ammo for trades and opportunities to add to the farm system. Bad news is most draft experts say this is a weak draft. |

A 3rd and a 5th isn't bad for Pirri. Frolik got us a 3rd and 4th. |

Actually it's nine. They have one pick in every round and an extra pick in the third and fifth. Seven rounds plus the two extras give us nine. |

If you are talking about Pirri, the 5th is in 2016. |

I know. They have San Jose's fifth from a draft day trade last year. That's in addition to their own. |
