In the case of Pirri, Olsen, and Hayes all of them would have to make the team next season or be exposed to waivers and risk losing them for nothing. Just like what happened with Stanton to start the season.

Bowman got Versteeg at half the salary for Hayes and Olsen.

One angle that hasn't been discussed is that this opens up a slot for another contract. IIRC the Hawks now have 48 organisational contracts. So one of Johns, Hayes or whomever can be signed if Stan and co. decide to do that now.

Close to nothing... Versteeg hadn't been setting the works on fire since he got here... I think he picked up some bad habits in FL and hasn't shaken them.

Oh and shipping off Frolik, Bolland, and Stalberg, only to waste the savings on Bickell and CC also defies rational explanation...

Like you I imagine, definitely didn't think that was happening. Think Pirri was a 2nd or 3rd rounder. So Bowman got two picks for him a 3rd and 5th; s'ok by me.
