Cooperalls....loved the protection they offered.

Grit...so what was the back story on the Coopealls? Was it simply tradition that won the day, or was it something else?

Since I edited this question in during my last post:

Didn't the Cooperalls trend exist in the 80s too? I could've sworn Philly wasn't the only team to try it.

- prd797

I believe the Whalers were the only other team to wear them.

Drewieske was waved by the Habs. Is he worth picking up as a depth d-man. Looked real good with the Kings at one point and would not cost an asset. Could report directly to Rockford. Just a thought

Tradition more than anything else. They were then outlawed to ensure it.

Ah, that makes sense.

And, as I understand it, besides looking silly, the long pants got banned too as they were a safety risk.

Pretty sure its the shoulder with Hossa. Watching the replay, after the hit he grabbed his right shoulder briefly. A week or two off for Hoss isn't exactly the worse thing that happen going forward. Especially with some reports indicating the Hawks were looking to give him rest down the stretch.
- Elbows15

....As long as no operation is needed.

Hawks give Penguins the cold shoulder, 5-1.Outdoor game, Bowman presser & trade deadline expectations.

Silly is relative though...since playing ice hockey in short pants could be seen as odd if you've never seen the game played.

Tradition is a strong influence.

I still despise the extra long, baggy look that MLB allows players to get away with...

Hartford and Philly only two NHL teams to rock the Cooperalls

It was more about the protective under shell. I am sure there are better terms to describe it, but you put the cooperalls in place of pants, was a more thorough and complete protection for legs and ass/ front and back. The long pants or shorts were just decorative, a thin outer coating to coordinate with uniform.

I had the Cooperall protection with short pants cover. I will defer to others on thier experience or why they disappeared. I definately felt safer in them vs regular pants....

Where is he on the "Regin Scale"? Better, worse, about the same?

I find it interesting the the goalie (Mike Veisor?) is wearing the traditional shorts.

It's been raining here in OR for the last few days with least five more days of rain before the next sunny period so it doesn't surprise me that it's raining up in BC..

Ok, so let's recap:

The outdoor game in Vancouver is today indoors because of the weather.

So - the 54,000 fans who paid probably premium prices in anticipation of a fun outdoor game have really paid extra for an indoor game with dramatically worse sight-lines than at the BC Place?

Is that about it?

If it's raining in Van I understand closing the roof. Rain is the worst...for the ice surface and the fans.

More than nine games costs a year of control, I think.

I also think the games carry over - play him nine this year, and game one next year costs a year of control.

I also think Torts probably wishes he'd started Luongo.

Yes - fine - no problem with that.

Give the fans refunds: they didn't get what they paid for.

Another awful day for the Canucks.

Lose another in regulation and lose another Sedin to injury.

I won't argue with that...

NHL really shouldn't have scheduled an "outdoor" game in BC this time of year. The chance for mild temps and rain is very high.
