Barker 3rd overall. - Ogilthorpe2
Yeah that one hurts too. Wasn't that the year Ovi and Malkin went 1-2? If so Barker becomes the answer to a bad trivia question.
Vorobiev and Yakabov at 10 and 11. |

Yeah, Ovi, Malkin, Barker, Ladd, Wheeler went 1-5.
Hawks Drafted the only bust of the top 5, but after that there were quite a few duds taken fairly high including Montoya (6), Olesz (7), and Radulov (15). |

That really hurt. Usually when you draft at 10 and 11 you get 2 really solid players to really help a rebuild. 13 and 16? With Cleary and Jones hurt, as well |

Nice article Al
With Q and his code talk, how long you expect Hossa out?2-3 weeks?
You think they call up Morin or Pirri since Hoss will be out? - captainserious
Hard to say on how long but yes on call-ups.

At the very least, you'd think one of the two should eventually contribute... |

I can handle myself
I guess Barker turned into Leddy, and we ended up with Ladd eventually anyway, so it's hard to knock the Barker pick too harshly, but I think I will anyway |

Mike Smith does deserve credit for drafting Keith, Seabrook, Byfuglien, and Crawford, but in general his woody for Russians cost this franchise dearly. |

Mike Smith does deserve credit for drafting Keith, Seabrook, Byfuglien, and Crawford, but in general his woody for Russians cost this franchise dearly. - MartiniMan
From Wiki...
Smith did draft some very successful NHL players: Brent Seabrook, Corey Crawford, Dustin Byfuglien, Duncan Keith, James Wisniewski, Adam Burish, Tuomo Ruutu and Craig Anderson. Four of those players helped win the Stanley Cup for the Chicago Blackhawks in 2010.
Smith has been heavily criticized for his frequent drafting of Russian players. During his stint as the Jets general manager, he drafted players such as Alexei Zhamnov, Igor Korolev, Sergei Bautin and Nikolai Khabibulin. Smith also was responsible for drafting Jets mainstay Keith Tkachuk. His tenure in Chicago was considered a disaster as he failed to address many of the team's holes and drafted first round flops such as Mikhail Yakubov, Pavel Vorobiev, Adam Munro and Anton Babchuk. Another move that many hockey pundits viewed as laughable was his hiring of Alpo Suhonen as the team's head coach as Suhonen was deemed too soft as a coach, along with his refusal to discipline players and change up lines during long losing streaks. Suhonen ended up quitting before season's end. Smith was also criticized by the Chicago media for his acquisitions of ex Toronto Maple Leafs such as Korolev, Garry Valk, Todd Gill and Alexander Karpovtsev, moves which essential dubbed the team "the Chicago Maple Leafs". |

Kesler has a NTC ?
http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/chi140302.html - mrpaulish
Damn I can't read it. Too big for my phone. Anything interesting? Latest rumors I saw some said Chicago, along wih Detroit, pitts, and flyers are in the lead for kesler. Other thing I saw was Hawks were one of the teams he would go to even though he wants to go to eastern conference |

That's pretty much what it said. Also that the Hawks were interested in Brodeur.

Dan.... there is no way unless a major piece is traded that the Hawks could fit Kesler under the cap.
Kesler supposedly would accept a trade to the Hawks...Big difference.
I wrote about what is going to happen at the deadline and unless Stan Bowman does exactly the opposite of what he told a room full of reporters last night...The Hawks will make only a minor move maybe.
Bowman said no one is even calling him ....They know he isn't dealing anyone off the roster!

Nordman up to play 4C, Krugman moves up to 3C with Shaw moving to wing, Saad to 1RW...that's if you truly want the "blender", otherwise just call up Morin. - Ogilthorpe2
Morin has earned a shot, as far a I'm concerned. However, I wouldn't be surprised if Q just rolls with Regin and Handzus in the line up and no one gets recalled. |

The sense I got listening to Bowman last night ...as he made reference to Morin and Pirri...
Morin will be the call up to replace Hossa.

You just never know who will become available. At most deadlines it is usually just grinders and players on expiring contracts, not usually a star player on a decent cap hit for a few more years. That changes things. Plus seeing what your competition does, too. Kesler is one player that would really make an impact. He only makes 1 millionmore than bickell, who would be gone. There should be room cap wise |

You can hold out hope....Numbers don't lie and a GM stood up last night and told everyone who wanted to listen he isn't trading anyone off the roster...And he likes his team.
You want to dream about Kesler and someone like him go ahead and I agree he is a vg player....As I said on Tweeted awhile ago Kesler is Bolland ++. but...
Kelser comes to Chgo when Brent Seabrook not Bryan Bickell goes the other way.
The Canucks will not trade with the Hawks unless there is drastic overpayment and you can book that.

Al, the piece says the Hawks have emerged as THE Penguins' challenger for Kesler. Don't know the Pittsburgh writer but he has no reason to name the Hawks if he didn't hear something. If he was a Hawk's writer with a possible bias then you might think a few times on it.
So many things would have to happen, Bickell to Vancouver for one I'd imagine, but you can't blame a Hawks fan for mentally masturbating over the thought of a skilled #2 center who brings it every game with grit.
IF Kesler is on the market Bowman damn well better at least look at it. And with St Louis sending out a line of Ott-Sobotka-Lapiere with Miller in the cage behind them the Hawks better look at any possibilty, including the Blues pounding lumps all over them.
