They have God & Jesus, I guess they aren't happy until they get Moses too!

Okay, so the Penguins have easily the best player in the world and have won 1 cup with him , going on 5 years ago. Why does it seem like the cup doesn't matter this year? Is this team good enough as is?

Over-value Maata much?
- Jeropotato

rookie who skips the AHL, plays tons of minutes for one of the best teams in the NHL; was one of the top Finnish players at the Olympics and wins a bronze and is starting to show offensive flair at the roughest position for a rookie to shine in at the NHL level. Did I mention he is 19? Yes, we overvalue him, because he deserves to be overvalued.

i hate to say it, but i must agree with most of you, maata looks to be the real deal, but many a player has looked to be the real deal and turned out the other way.

that being said, i wouldnt trade him straight up for kesler. because if he did turn out to be the real deal, then we would regret it for a long time. so we must give him a chance.

i heard the pens were getting, kesler, evander kane, martin st louis, ryan miller and calahan for chris conner. its alot like last years trade deadline where we got everyone for nothin and still didnt win the cup

He will play every 5th game for each team.

Burke said to Craig Custance today that he's willing to keep Cammy past the trade deadline even if there's no extension worked out.

Taking this at face value I'm just gonna register my displeasure.

Girardi and Vatanen are both right shooting d-men with pretty comparable #'s for the year, but Vatanen has done that in 19 less games AND he's only 22 vs 29 for Girardi. There is a lot more to his game that doesn't reflect in these stats. I doubt Anaheim trades him for Girardi who would be a Duck for 20 games only.

Girardi is more of a defensive guy who takes on top lines. You're comparing apples and oranges. That being said, I wouldn't give up anything significant unless they've already worked out an extension with him.

Hey, your not in a rebuild. If a player came around that improved your Chances at the cup you wouldn't do it? Is the Cup not the be all and end all for the Pens?

Yeah I like to think all this extension talk is a gambit to up his trade value, since Cammy is going to be a secondary player on the market, probably won't go until Vanek, Moulson etc. Still it's disconcerting.

No surprise if true, Girardi was always considered somewhat of a long shot to get dealt (or at least, far less likely than Callahan)

Maata isn't the second coming of Lidstrom yet but he is a phenomenal young defenseman and i wouldn't be surprised if Shero considered him as untouchable as Crosby is.

Sutter + Pouliot + 2nd for Kesler?

I read the Penguins already offered Sutter + Pouliot for Kesler so maybe that extra 2nd gets it done.

It would put the Pens in cap hell for next year. All but says goodbye to Niskanen and Orpik.

Edit: I'm not sure the Pens have a 2nd. I think the Canucks would do it for Sutter+Pouliot+2014 1st.

This is true although they would be dumping Sutter who is due for a raise and they were probably planning on letting one of Niskanen and Orpik walk anyway. They're pretty deep in terms of defensive prospects so maybe they could make it work.
