Seriously though, my understanding is that Pitt needs a reliable backup (Bryz), reliable depth on D (N.Schultz) and a RW (Hemsky). Seems hard to believe but the Oil have available what Pitt is apparently looking for going into the playoffs.

So, my question is: If these three were going to Pitt, what's a reasonable return? (All 3 are UFA next year.)

This question isn't intended to be about whether it's going to happen or not.

Was he not a good player in Vancouver? I can't remember except that on Vancouver,( a couple years ago) there were no average or below average players, only awesome,cream of the crop, solid players. What happened?

In all honesty, unless he has term in his contract, he might go as part of a salary return.
For example: Hemsky for M.S. ,a prospect and a 2nd as opposed to Hemsky for a 2nd.

I would think that a Minnesota fan would understand patience more than most fans. It's not like Fletcher turned that team around all that fast .

Also, are you judging GM Craig MacTavish on his merits or on his History with Kevin Lowe?

I do understand patience. It took Fletcher 4 years to get the Wild back to the playoffs. I get that it doesn't happen over night. But as an Edmonton fan it must seem like a never ending hair ripping, pride swallowing siege of waiting and waiting and never seeing an iota of improvement.

And that's the problem, the Oilers never seem to progress. It's like every season you're expecting them to step it up a notch and advance a little bit further and instead they spin their wheels or even regress.

I've never been a big MacT fan. I didn't like him as a coach(although I think he's the last decent coach they've had) and I'm not so sure he's been all that great so far as the GM aside from bringing in Perron.

If he tears it up before Wednesday making some meaningful moves, I'd say maybe he's on the right track. But to continue wasting such great talent and going nowhere to me is a travesty for these talented young players.

Getting a couple of bonafide top 4 d-men would be a very good start...

He was solid on Vancouver. And was our fourth best player during the 2008 SC winning season. I loved him during our first stint here. The moment we resigned him, though, he began playing terribly.

I hope that mid level prospect is a big C with top 6 potential... not like Pitts is going to need any of those for a while

I think you need to have a close look at what exactly has happened in the last four years. Before Mac T took over, Tambo added exactly zero players of significance. Not one, in 3 years. It's obvious to Oilers fans that a bunch of prospects and rookies are not just going turn the team around. Tambo figured we could just wait until 23 prospects or drafted rounded out the roster.
Mac T has recognized that we need veterans to round out the depth positions.

You have not given Mac T any credit for the positive additions of Ferrence, Gordon, Bryz, Scrivens, and HenRichards. Not stars, but upgrades to what we had.

Getting a top 4 D is going to be tough. We heard all the talk about trading one of the young guns for one, but all we really get is offers for okay,solid but not spectacular defensemen. If and when that deal presents itself, if it makes sense, I have no doubt he will pull the trigger.
