Sure has, but in all honesty, for a 2nd pick or a prospect, the
Penguins are getting a heck of a player.

- Jeropotato

Agreed. Although his career has been riddled with injuries he's still managed close to a PPG which is actually amazing to me. Quick math puts him at .76 PPG.

Unfortunately for Hemsky he has languished on some very poorly coached and managed teams for Edmonton. I think he could have been somethig really big had he had the chance to play for any number of other teams in the NHL.

Same thing will happen to the Halls, Eberles, Yakupovs etc.. if someone doesn't gut that program and start over with all new management and a lot of new player personel.

I hope you aren't serious, but in the event that you are here are some reasons as to why that deal would never fly:

A.) The value is WAY off. Maata is about as untouchable to the Pens as a guy like Eberle is to us.

B.) Those three "assets" (if you can even call them that) aren't worth a single 1st, let along two.

C.) I can't see them wanting another goalie that struggles in the post-season.

Oh...it's that time of the year again? Always a blog on Hemsky as we enter March and why? If he was worth beans he would be out of EDM by now. get some some stuff will ya?
- acmidd28

True. But anyone who watches the player knows he can help, and a 2nd round pick is pretty good value.

im just messing with you buddy...orpik scuderi and niskanen are solid but you cant count on maatta to carry top 4 minutes throughout a playoff run and there is a reason those AHL players are in the AHL...its because they arent great. macdonald would be a nice solution and martin staying healthy would help
- EnzoD

Pittsburgh ain't throwing top prospects for rentals. MacDonald would strictly be a rental. It's poor asset management. Anything over a third round pick and a C tier prospect is poor asset management for Hemsky. Hemsky reminds me of the current Czech Republic coach. Tremendous player when playing with his buds back home as evidence with his performance in the Olympics (take away the own goal he was credited with against the US), but put him away from his buddies, he underachieves. He has underachieved for three years and before that, he was as fragile as anyone in this league. Not a good resume. He needs to go back to the Czech Republic to play professionally after this year.

I thought it was obvious. None the less, thank you. I actually thought those players added up to two 1st rounders.

Ya he's terrible... almost a point a game player for years on a terrible team. Ya hes fragile.... for years the only guy that would go into corners to get the puck, even though he's small.
Hemsky is underestimated because of the team he played for, and because most people have barely watched him play, so they repeat what they hear. Is he Gretzky? No, but he can be a good player on a better team.

If you go to a Websters Dictionary and look up the word enigma, all they have to do is place a picture of Hemsky. He is skilled and talented. However, he doesn't produce anymore. I've watched him play over the years. He isn't a point per game player anymore. Stop living in the past.

I would think that a Minnesota fan would understand patience more than most fans. It's not like Fletcher turned that team around all that fast .

Also, are you judging GM Craig MacTavish on his merits or on his History with Kevin Lowe?

How or when did he underachieve? He has mostly been on the 3rd line year. He has been injury prone, but I wouldn't say he's soft either.

He's not soft, but he's not exactly gritty. He's willing to go into the corners and can take a hit.

He goes into traffic fearlessly for a average to smaller sized player. Doesn't dish out punishment like you say. Looks like the shoulder has healed up finally. Can't really fault anyone for injury when its mostly from taking pucks off the ankle.
