You can ice this roster and have 4 million in cap space, barring Jokinen isn't greedy:

Jussi Jokinen ($3.3m) / Sidney Crosby ($8.7m) / Pascal Dupuis ($3.75m)
Beau Bennett ($0.900m) / Ryan Kesler ($5.00m) / Jayson Megna ($1.0m)
Joe Vitale ($0.7m) / Craig Adams ($0.70m) / Spencer Machacek ($0.696m)
DEFENSEMEN
Kris Letang ($7.250m) / Paul Martin ($5.000m)
Rob Scuderi ($3.375m) / Olli Maatta ($0.894m)
Robert Bortuzzo ($0.600m) / Simon Despres ($1.250m)

Oneonta:

Scuderi is under contract thus making 5 NHL D under contract. Despres is RFA, if he signs his qual offer he is under a million, maybe he signs a two year at 1.25.

Martin Letang
Scuderi Maata
Despres Bortuzzo

I dunno about you but that looks just fine to me as far as locks under contract

- nelson911

There is no given Despres is signed. With the way he is jerked around, its obvious the organization doesn't like him at all. I watch what an organization does instead of listen to their words. I called BS last year when Shero and Bylsma said he was a top two-D pairing guy.

Letang? Big big big question mark moving forward. I wouldn't depend on him at all. I would say the defense takes a major hit without Niskanen.

Well lets just say if they offer him a two year 1 way deal, he's gonna play, I wouldn't be surprised if he holds out for it and doesn't sign his qualifying offer, he's gonna sign a one way deal if offered.

Huge trade, not sure who got the better end of it...Stewart and Halak are probably abit unhappy going from first to last so to speak.

The big question now...What does Shero's ego do? Will he not be out done or will he mind his p's and q's.

St. Louis got two rentals and basically gave up a first, second and a decent prospect. If I'm Buffalo, I UNLOAD Stewart quickly. Halak is a ufa, so I would guess he won't be in Buffalo long. They will deal him for more assets. No reason to keep him.

Really, when you look at it, this is a dumb move for Buffalo. Should have traded Miller and Ott in separate deals to maximize returns.

Some idiot fan on hfboards suggested Pittsburgh send Fleury, a 1st and a 2nd to Buffalo for Ryan Miller. What a bunch of dolts on that board.

There was nothing solid about the Buffalo/St Louis deal. Buffalo screwed up by not sending both assets in different deals to maximize the return. Despres and a third for a rental ... pass. We have learned that lesson last year. Dumb move.

St louis gave up a signed Stewart for another year...

Can't really say it was bad move when you can't see what the offers were for each or what they could be getting in the next 5 days for Stewart and Halak.

If Buf deals those 2 separately, is it not the same?

Buffalo did OK.. There is interest in Stewart, so they can flip him and get more picks/prospects.

They still have Moulson, they can end up with a ton of picks in the next two drafts.

Buffalo has to deal them. Stewart is addition by subtraction for STL. They wanted him gone. I don't think they care if Stewart was signed for another year. The guy is a malcontent and a major disappointment.

It's a good move for the blues. They have plenty of cap space to sign miller and they gave up a mediocre prospect and a low 1st rounder

I'm saying Stewart is signed for another year, as in adds value over a guy like Ott who is older and UFA.... I think Buffalo is gonna reap a good haul overall from this. Even if they can't get what they want now they have the draft and the offseason....etc.

I think he is really good. The cost was always too high in the past.

The downfall is of course his propensity to be injured

I would take a guy that leads and plays with heart, even if older, than a malcontent like Stewart. To me, he is garbage. I don't think he adds value. GMs in the league know all about his makeup.

If Buff drops Ehrhoff too man o man, they will have picks galore... although he is a big risk for recapture penalties, something like 2-3 million per if he retires early.

As much as I can't stand the thought of Hemsky coming to the Pens, I have come to the conclusion he might be the best addition for the Pens. He won't cost as first, or a high end prospect and if he sucks with Sid, you dump him at the end and not resign him. He has skill and talent, but isn't a producer anymore and is injury prone.

Give them a third round pick, Ruopp and a Primanti Brothers sandwich.

Buffalo may as well gut the team and unload what they can. Get your core players of six or seven and start from scratch. It's something Calgary should have done years ago.
